GdS: ‘Division’ between Gazidis, Boban and Maldini thwarted January operations

By Isak Möller -

After a poor start to the season, AC Milan have recovered under the guidance of Stefano Pioli. However, although it’s looking better on the pitch, internal struggles remain. There seem to be two different directions, in fact.

According to today’s edition of La Gazzetta Dello Sport (via MilanNews.it), the January transfer window was heavily affected by one man – Ivan Gazidis – just like in the summer. This certainly wasn’t ideal for Zvone Boban and Paolo Maldini.

The duo was stopped on many things by the CEO, who was appointed by the Singer family (Elliott owners) and thus remains untouchable. Per the report, there seems to be two wills in the club: the sporting and the commercial one.

As you could have guessed, Gazidis is an advocate of the latter, keen on building a team of youngsters. However, thus far, this strategy hasn’t exactly worked, just like the CEOs attempts to close new sponsorships and keep the big ones.
