Champions League qualification could play a big role in the renewal saga but it should also be noted that the goalkeeper wants to stay. There may be a few million between the two parties, with Milan still at €8m per season, but the player’s will could be decisive.
And if a top-four finish can make a difference, so can Donnarumma’s family, who are pushing for the renewal just like they did four years ago. Optimism seems to be growing, in other words, although the situation is still complicated.
