GdS: Dumfries vs. Theo a test of nerve – whoever accelerates first could win

By Oliver Fisher -

There are some players who try to remain as calm as possible in a fixture like the Milan derby, and then there are those who do not try to hide the fact that they feel it more.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport (as seen below) writes today, the battle on Milan’s left flank between Theo Hernandez and Denzel Dumfries will be a ‘test of nerve’ given that the flank is important but also with the duo having history.

Physicality and speed is something that both players possess, but there is the feeling that both sets of fans will be holding their breath as they go into each tackle against each other, because though matches last 90 minutes a Dumfries versus Hernandez battle is always in danger of finishing earlier.

In the first leg, the Inter defender had an easy time and took possession of the wing without encountering any resistance. Alexis Saelemaekers didn’t worry him, and Hernandez was even worse as he never made an acceleration or a move to get around his man.

Simone Inzaghi turned to the Dutchman because of Matteo Darmian’s move into the back three and he responded brilliantly, however tonight he will face a far more threatening opponent: Rafael Leao.

With him it is a different Milan but also different Theo, given he plays partly as a full-back, partly as a mezzala and even a bit as a regista.
