GdS: €100m spend on 3-4 signings – Milan’s summer strategy becomes clearer

AC Milan made 10 signings during the last summer transfer window but they are planning further big investments in the mercato ahead of the 2024-25 season, a report claims.

With three months to go until the end of the season, La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) reports that there are decisions that are being formed day after day regarding the strategy that will be taken.

The first: in the summer there will not be a 2023-style revolution but the changes will be important. The second: the priority is the centre-forward, with Joshua Zirkzee and Benjamin Sesko top of the list. The third: a lot will depend on the big offers that will likely arrive for top players.

Paolo Scaroni uttered a non-trivial phrase before Monza-Milan, stating: “We will close the 23-24 financial year with an excellent result and this is the premise for being able to go to the market with the means to be able to make important decisions.”

Milan know that they will probably sign a central defender, they are studying the market for full-backs and would like to add a physical and athletic midfielder in front of the defence. However, everything starts with the attack because the purchase of a No.9 cannot be postponed.

Zirkzee and Sesko are the two players they like the most, with the Bologna star perhaps having the edge because he is already accustomed to scoring in Italy, but both would cost at least €40m.

The second most important expense will probably be on a central midfielder or central defender: Wolfsburg’s Maxence Lacroix is liked for the defence, as is Brest’s Lilian Brassier and Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo (who would be a free transfer).

Considering the three or four reinforcements needed, they expense could well reach €100m because the management want to sign players that make a difference rather than going for quantity as they had to last year to bolster the depth.

However, the summer mercato dynamics probably revolve around Mike Maignan, Theo Hernandez and Rafa Leao, the three players with the most value. All are being watched closely by Europe’s top clubs, with PSG interested in all three.

Not only that, but Maignan and Theo have contracts expiring in 2026 and the renewal remains a delicate chapter. An important offer will arrive for at least one of them, and a year ago they accepted when Sandro Tonali’s price was met.
