GdS: Europa League glory could be crucial for Pioli’s Milan future

Winning the Europa League could be what Stefano Pioli needs in order to keep his job as the AC Milan coach next season, a report suggests.

As has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Milan News), the Italian coach is still under plenty of pressure as Milan boss despite the team sitting one point away from second place in Serie A.

Milan are out of the Coppa Italia and into the last 16 of the Europa League where they will be facing Slavia Praha, a tough but very winnable tie.

The club stands to earn around €40m from winning the entire tournament when TV earnings and prize money from each round is factored in, and that money will go a long way towards securing a new striker in the summer transfer window.

Europa League success will be a very big deal for the club, but would be an extremely big deal for Pioli. He would be able to hold that in front of the powers that be and likely get the chance to fulfil the final year of his contract, or even get a new one altogether.

It would be hard for Milan to appoint a new coach on the back of a season where Milan have won a European trophy and qualified for the Champions League again.
