GdS: Florenzi suffers ligament and meniscal damage – his season could be over

By Oliver Fisher -

Alessandro Florenzi had a scan on his knee injury yesterday and the result is not what was hoped for, with the risk now that he could miss the 2024-25 season.

In the 40th minute of the game against City, Florenzi went down in considerable pain and it quickly became apparent it was a knee injury that he had suffered, which obviously arouses fears that it would be a serious issue.

The club then confirmed to us that Florenzi underwent an MRI and specialist evaluation yesterday which highlighted ligament and meniscal damage, with the consequent need to undergo arthroscopic surgery which he will return to Italy for.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the ligament and meniscus damage is not good news and it means that Florenzi’s season is ‘over or almost over before it started’.

For Florenzi, it is yet another bad bit of injury luck: in September 2022 he was operated on in Finland after a serious injury to the proximal tendon of the biceps femoris of the left thigh.

Milan could change some of their transfer plans after the news. Emerson Royal has been a target for a long time and negotiations with Tottenham are well underway with a decisive acceleration expected this week.

  1. “We’ve got so many right backs”…. So Florenzi’s out before the season even starts, Kalulu will be out for 3 months anytime now, Calabria just turned in another vintage performance against City and Jiminez, Terraciano are two newbies. That leaves Salad who’s probably still leaving so we definitely need a RB – the question is who?

    1. Looks like it will be Royal at 14 million from the reports I’m reading. Not my first choice. But if he comes I will back him.

I just wish we could have signed someone else. Even Tiago Santos…

      1. I don’t get Moncada’s weird obsession with this guy but like you say I’ll back him if he comes – and hope he can get back to his form of a couple of seasons ago.

  2. Guy on last year of contract. So we will not see him anymore. Big loss also from financial stand of point.

But these Milan player injuries continue to affect club seriously.

  3. I always liked Florenzi since his early days at AS Roma and had been hoping we would sign him far earlier so really sorry for him how injury mared his career has turned out.
Hope he comes back before the end of the season but this is a huge blow for both him and us.
