GdS: Fofana already in full training as Fonseca weighs up options for Parma trip

The images that were released showing Youssouf Fofana doing his first AC Milan training session yesterday got fans excited, and his debut for the club could come in just four days.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport recall, Alberto Zaccheroni – who won a Scudetto with Milan in 1999 – used to say that the midfield is ‘the most important department of a team’, and this is something the current management seem to agree with.

The first and most important piece arrived last week with the official announcement of Fofana. The Frenchman, formerly of Monaco, worked mostly with the rest of the squad yesterday at Milanello, so much so that it is not crazy to imagine him on the field in Parma on Saturday.

It is likely that if he were deemed fit enough to start at the Tardini then he would be placed alongside Tijjani Reijnders in a 4-2-3-1 system. Against Torino it was Ismaël Bennacer and Ruben Loftus-Cheek who were in the double pivot, while Yunus Musah remained on the bench.

The training sessions that remain between now and Saturday’s game will offer a further clue, but it must be remembered that Fofana had a disrupted preseason with Monaco after trying to force his way out and might need some time to develop match fitness.
