GdS: Fofana climbs Milan’s list of summer priorities – interest grows

AC Milan are getting more and more serious about signing Youssouf Fofana from Monaco this summer but other clubs are also getting into a position to sign the Frenchman.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below), the Rossoneri view Fofana as one of the main priorities for the summer transfer market, behind Joshua Zirkzee who remains the most important target of them all.

The Monaco midfielder is currently at Euro 2024 with the France National Team which means a move will not take place until after the tournament, and by then, many teams could be in the frame.

Milan have been in contact with the player’s entourage again in recent days to make sure their interest is heard. The issue is that they are not the only club to do that.

Juventus have been in contact several times, as have Atletico Madrid and some Premier League clubs. Fofana has only got one year left on his contract with the principality club.

The expectation is that he will demand a high wage given the interest in him, and no decision will be made until late July when he can evaluate the offers.

Milan feel he would provide a good screen in front of the defence and stop the team from conceding so much.

  1. Pls @all is there any other website that focuses only on Milan, if any pls share and I hope Milan should have a good mecarto this summer, Forza Milan.

    1. There was a site but it’s deserted now because authors don’t really post much there anymore. Last couple of years it was more or less just prematch and postmatch statistics. And so people stopped visiting and commenting there. That site was great. We had a many heated debates there. Communication was also on a more refined level. The site is still on but nothing much is going on there anymore.

      Rossoneri Blog (RIP)

    2. Used to frequent Milan forum named milanmania back when the net was still dial up (late 99s early 2000s).. Then I remember it was dead.. Your comment made me revisit the site and it seems that they’ve been revived now. Amazing.

      1. I am aware of that. Just quite annoying that they posted something which is basically same old news from previous one. Maybe just to fill “daily quota”.

      2. Not open yet but most top clubs in Europe and Italy have already started signing free agents, extending their best players or sealing deals. Like last summer our management is waiting for the leftovers. I really hope I’ll be proved wrong this time.

        1. I fully agree with you.

Hopefully all these merayakan go around is just media creation and Milan will act quickly and secure all target by mid july.

        2. Yeah inter is already running in minus 50 mil for players they already had in their squad last season and then got a couple of free transfers so not really sure i would be envious of them at least at the moment

    1. Me too.
Our management is too focused on ball carriers instead of actual defensive midfielders.
I’m not even sure they know what a defensive midfielder/destroyer is actually.

    2. Fully agreed. There seems to be a common misconception that Fofana is a defensive midfielder, while Wieffer is a box-to-box, when it’s in fact the other way around.
Wieffer’s defensive numbers are far superior to those or Fofana, not to mention he’ll probably cost less.

  2. Fofona and Musah pivot with Reijnder’s at the 10 if i’m reading the way he wants the team to play…fullbacks getting up the field…or a 433 but then maybe Weifer or Amrabat as the 6 as the other 3 are all 8s…

    1. Nah. You’re forgetting Loftus-Cheek.
It’s Wieffer or Fofana or Amrabt in front of the defense line (I doubt that more than one of them will join, unless Pobega leaves), while the other two (Reijnders and Loftus-Cheek) would try to attract the opponent’s midfielders to open up space. The DM then, will join the two Central Backs to form a back line of 3, while the full-backs push forward, and the wingers cut inside.
