GdS: Fofana would revolutionise Milan’s midfield – what the data says

AC Milan are working hard to sign Youssouf Fofana this summer for the midfield and the data shows that he will make a major difference in the centre of the park.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, the French midfielder would revolutionise the way that Milan are able to play under Paulo Fonseca as there are areas in which he excels when compared to the likes of Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ismael Bennacer.

Last season at Monaco, Fofana was the player with the most dribbles, the most passes, the most chances created, the most tackles, and the most duels.

Whilst he may initially stand out for his physicality and large frame, there is a lot more to Fofana than that. He is very effective in attack whilst still being able to help the defence.

In all of Ligue 1 last season, Fofana was fourth for passes in the final third of the pitch, second for progressive passes and fourth for through balls, showing why Milan want him so badly.

His Monaco figure for passes that create an opportunity is 80.76 and none of the midfielders in the current Milan squad reach 68.

Loftus-Cheek is better than him when it comes to attacking the penalty area, whilst Yacine Adli is better at breaking up opposition attacks, but Fofana would become the best all-round midfielder in the team based on these metrics.
