GdS: Fonseca could bring Yazici with him to Milan with playmaker flattered

Yusuf Yazici has opened up to the idea of potentially joining AC Milan, and a report has claimed that there might well be a reciprocated interest.

La Gazzetta dello Sport write that Yazici’s contract with Lille is expiring and he ‘could continue’ his career with the Rossoneri. The Rossoneri management admire the attacking midfielder and of course his current coach Paulo Fonseca.

It is a reciprocated interest, and in many ways it would be a story coming full circle. Yazici presented himself to the San Siro crowd his own way in November 2020, in a Europa League match where he scored a hat-trick which ended a long unbeaten run.

He told Sofoot: “I will never forget that hat-trick at San Siro in a legendary stadium against a historic opponent.” This season the Turkey international has scored five league goals and added two assist in 27 appearances, so not his best campaign.

Last summer he returned from a loan at Trabzonspor where he had arrived in 2019 for €19m and Fonseca relaunched him, progressively transforming him into a point of reference for his attack, complementary to striker Jonathan David who ended the season with 19 goals.

Lille finished fourth and will be fighting for a place in the Champions League in the summer, but Yazici will not be there as he is instead preparing to say goodbye to the French club.

The 27-year-old spoke about Fonseca: “A coach who I appreciate a lot, because he gave me confidence and taught me many things. I like his sincerity and his closeness with the players.

“With him I have developed a more mature, more ruthless football offensively and now I also like to defend: and I never thought I would say it one day, he has shown me that managing the game behind the striker is not enough I missed this. I’m older and I understand better the importance of the coverage phase in today’s football.”

The European Championship on the horizon could be a showcase for Yazici: “I’m pleased that many important clubs are interested in me, I still have many dreams to realise in football. You can’t remain insensitive to clubs like Milan, which for me it means players like Ronaldinho, Beckham.”

  1. Let’s try this: sell almost all the worthy players we’ve got and replace each one of them by 2 players from Lille and create some sort of an “improved” Lille since Fonseca already knows them very well.
Lille is already a top 4-5 team in Ligue 1, so the objective would be to make this “improved” Lille a top 4 team in serie A. Don’t worry about dropping from group stage in UCL an exiting EL, it’s irrelevant.
This team would be much more profitable, since we’ll be getting rid of players that earn 4-7M per year for 50M or plus and get NEW “talented” “prospects” for ONLY 20M !! We will develop them until they become established players and then sell them for higher prices. Rince and repeat.

    1. You can try your idea on football manager. But in reality no stupid club want to sell all key player for profit in just one summer, not even atalanta that are famous for selling player. ACM not famous for selling player in the past and now.

    2. I got better idea. Why don’t Red Bird just buy Lille and leave Milan? Rather than transferring many players (and now coach) from Lille. Seems like a better fit to their ‘sustainable’ strategy. And they can bring Furlani and Moncada along. So they can do an all-you-can-buy from their favorite player’s pool.

  2. Wasn’t even a starter for lille..hard pass. If take Yoro and chevalier and maybe diakite from that club and that’s about it..the rest are meh or double meh

    1. Yup and that’s when we were untouchable. Galtiers’s Lille made us play like a bunch of kindergartens. One of a few names in my shortlist of our potential coaches (all the off the field issues aside).

  3. Fonseca uses a strong 10 in his system. We don’t really have a dedicated 10. We have players we slot into that role.

On the other hand, Milan don’t have a good luck when it comes to Turks playing for us.

  4. A player scores a goal (in Europe) against Milan and instantly becomes the number one target for them. Remember Hauge? Yeah… I knew this day would come.
