GdS: Fonseca idea losing momentum as Milan continue evaluation process

By Oliver Fisher -

After reports suggested that he was on his way to AC Milan to become the next head coach, things have cooled down a bit on the Paulo Fonseca front.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the process of identifying the next head coach of Milan remains very much open and the ‘hierarchies’ may change in the next few hours. Fonseca was and remains one of the hottest names, but Milan are not the only team to have come forward for him.

Many big clubs will be changing coaches and the Portuguese is in the running on multiple tracks. Last night Fonseca’s Lille conceded in the 93rd minute against Nice to draw 2-2, throwing away what would have been direct qualifications for the Champions League.

Brest will go straight into the group stage instead, while Lille will have to go through the qualification phase. While waiting to see what Fonseca decides, his candidacy risks losing appeal for Milan who must move quickly and concretely.

In the background, the other names persist, from Marcelo Gallardo to Mark van Bommel plus Lionel Scaloni. All of them, like Roberto De Zerbi, have had at least one chat with Milan in recent weeks, so now we must see who wins the race.

  1. These reports are hilarious. According to these reporters, first Lopetegui, then Conceicao, now Fonseca have all been imminent, only for them to “lose momentum” as if anybody in the know is actually telling them these things.

These reporters talk about it like it’s a horse race in real time. In reality, I doubt anybody inside Milanello is leaking anything. It’s either completely made up, or being leaked by agents with agendas.
