GdS: Fonseca tells Milan from Greece that Roma striker is welcome

By Oliver Fisher -

Paulo Fonseca has made it clear to the AC Milan management that he is an admirer of Roma striker Tammy Abraham and he is a name that could be explored, a report claims.

According to a report from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan are not only considering Romelu Lukaku for the centre-forward role, although the Belgian has made it known that he would accept a move to the Rossoneri if they can reach a deal with Chelsea.

Fonseca, currently on holiday in Greece, has already made it known that he wants a striker who will fill the area and will make runs in behind. Joshua Zirkzee remains very welcome but the new head coach also likes Abraham, who scored once in eight games last season for Roma in Serie A.

Abraham tore the anterior cruciate in his left knee in June 2023 and returned to the pitch in April. His minutes were carefully managed as is logical after such a serious injury, and he spent a lot of time on the bench watching Lukaku and Paulo Dybala.

He got some minutes in the Europa League quarter-final when Roma beat Milan and that elimination pushed Stefano Pioli out of the club. His replacement is a former Roma coach, who could have two former Giallorossi centre-forwards. A lot of links between the Diavolo and La Lupa, therefore.

    1. Yes, but regardless it’s a possibility. And I, for one, would not mind Abraham. He’s going to be no worse than Zirkzee, from a goal scoring perspective and in fact has a more established track record. I see him an Osimhen-lite, and if he gives us even 50% of what Osimhen gives, he will score at least as many goals as Giroud, and maybe more.

      1. I wanted Abraham years ago. But back then he was on different level. The last time i saw him in Roma he was terrible, not sure he can get back to his best. Otherwise he is a good player. If he can get back to his old form he is a steal for 25mil.

        1. Sadly his injury is torn ACL. Player who successfully recover from ACL usually not a runner like Tammy. Del Piero, Falcao, Shearer all recover well but not speed utility player like Tammy, although there was the case of Robert Pires.

Now it is more of a gambling to take a player with history of tore ACL for 25 mills.

          1. Fair enough, it’s a risk. But is it a worse risk than Broja or some of these other randos we’ve been associated with.

  1. If he is the second option I really like this move.

If he is primary am a bit concerned unless they are gunning for a top DM or RB.

Abraham with 2 of Leao, Puli Ok4 and Chuk on with side is an exciting thought. Especially if an aggressive RB means opponents struggle to know where the extra run is coming from

  2. Garbage talk. A player who doesn’t make Roma first team is suggested to Milan and the coach approved?
    Garbage coach
    Garbage and broke management
    Talk talk talk no action
Next to deceive fans is stadium talk
