GdS: Formation trick by Pioli sent Verona into confusion – how it helped Milan

AC Milan managed to come back from behind to win their game against Hellas Verona 3-1 last night. As most of the fans noticed, the Rossoneri played with a slightly different shape and that was all Stefano Pioli’s work.

Sandro Tonali bagged a brace for Milan on his birthday, celebrating in style. Alessandro Florenzi sealed the deal just two minutes after coming off the bench, further proving that Pioli did everything right for the clash.

As highlighted by Gazzetta Dello Sport (via MilanNews), Verona were confused as Milan played with Tonali very high up the pitch. Indeed, it was more or less a 4-1-4-1 formation and it’s the same trick that stunned Napoli at San Paolo.

With ‘less build-up’, although it emerged in other areas, Milan were able to attack Verona more and Tonali ended up having a big impact. After the 2-1 goal, Pioli reverted to the 4-2-3-1 and he can be very pleased with the performance of the Rossoneri.
