GdS: From #PioliOut to the man of the moment – the Milan boss looks for his 40th win

By Oliver Fisher -

There were more than a few people who were against the idea of hiring Stefano Pioli as the new head coach when Marco Giampaolo was sacked.

However, as La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) reports this morning, 493 days have passed since Pioli joined Milan and he has managed to turn doubters into believers.

In October 9 2019, the announcement of the new coach was greeted by the skepticism of the fans, summarised by the viral hashtag #PioliOut. But now the Emilian coach is the top of the class and is appreciated by everyone from the management to the fans.

Against Spezia tonight he is looking for his fortieth win for the Rossoneri in 68 games (18 draws and just 10 defeats). While he didn’t have the easiest of starts to life as the Milan boss, the team have gone from fighting for a spot in the top half to fighting to keep top spot, which is a fantastic indicator of his work.
