GdS: Gabbia and Romagnoli reunited as a pairing – the previous signs are encouraging

By Oliver Fisher -

Tonight’s game at the Marassi will see Matteo Gabbia and Alessio Romagnoli reunited as a centre-back pairing, and the previous signs are encouraging.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport reports (via MilanNews), Milan will be without Simon Kjaer for the trip to Genoa as he has sustained a muscle problem, which adds to the headache of not having Zlatan Ibrahomovic and Ismael Bennacer.

Romagnoli and Gabbia will therefore be the centre-back pairing and they will be tasked with keeping Fabio Quagliarella quiet. The captain has been criticised since his return but has had a couple of positive recent outings, while Gabbia at 21 appears to be a very capable back-up.

The duo appeared in the Europa League against Celtic on Thursday night, and seven times last season when including the Coppa Italia, with 4 wins, 2 draws and one defeat and 7 goals conceded in total.

Both are growing and against Sampdoria, as mentioned, they will have to be able to contain Quagliarella. Gabbia wants a stable place in the future of Milan, one that Romagnoli has already earned.
