GdS: Gazidis has offered Maldini a ‘Nedved-esque’ role including vice-presidency

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan CEO Ivan Gazidis has offered Paolo Maldini a different role in order to remain at the club under Ralf Rangnick, a report claims.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews), the Rossoneri have chosen Rangnick to lead the club into a new era and although nothing is signed, he will almost certainly arrive as head coach and head of the sporting area.

The club want to entrust Maldini with a “Nedved-esque” role, something which emerged in the conversation with Gazidis. If necessary Maldini can also take up the vice-presidency, but with more institutional than operational tasks.

Rangnick has given the green light, but the solution does not seem to particularly appeal to the former captain, who has already expressed negative thoughts about the arrival of the German.

Maldini is almost certain to decline a role as simply an ambassador after having worked in the sporting area for the past two years, first with Leonardo and then with Boban.

He has asked for time to reflect, which is why Milan are preparing for his departure.
