GdS: ‘Gifts worth €70m’ – how Milan plan to revamp the striker role under Fonseca

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have chosen Paulo Fonseca as the man they want to lead the post-Stefano Pioli era and they are planning on giving him some help in the transfer window.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) report this morning that a new journey is about to begin for Fonseca after he closed the chapter with Lille, one that is two hours away from Portugal. The coach has isolated himself in recent days and has not given any news about himself, with the right prudence.

He also knows what everyone knows: he will soon be Milan’s new manager. According to the plans of Milan and Fonseca, the announcement will not take place tomorrow or even on Tuesday, rather it will come on either Wednesday or Thursday.

9×2

The Milan management team are working to give him a top striker. Giorgio Furlani, Geoffrey Moncada and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are continuing to try and sign Joshua Zirkzee under the right conditions and to pair him with another centre-forward.

A name like Chelsea’s Armando Broja could become an option, without forgetting that the club can keep Luka Jovic simply by exercising an option. Stefano Pioli’s Milan, after all, has always had solutions inside the area.

The Scudetto arrived with Olivier Giroud, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Ante Rebic, two different number 9s and an atypical but functional centre-forward. How much would this total restructuring of the attack cost? More or less €65-70m.

The operations

Zirkzee costs 40 million plus agent commissions. Milan are working on ‘Operation Z’ every day and there is underlying optimism. Joshua has been saying for months that he prefers another club in Italy, and he has a €40m clause that Milan ‘are more than ready to pay’ from July 1st.

Armando Broja is a different striker. Furlani and Moncada have made clear calls for him in recent days and they are interested, even if there is some doubt however about a personal meeting with his agents, which does not appear to have taken place.

Milan already tried to sign him last season and are persisting, believing that Chelsea’s demands could now be €20m rather than the previous €40m after a couple of difficult seasons. Albania have called him up for the European Championship, and he is in Italy’s group.

  1. I’d rather we just go for Zirkzee or Dovbyk and keep Jovic as a deputy instead of going for Broja. What remains of the budget should be used to go for a quality CDM.

      1. All depends on Fonseca’s system which by the sound of it is more or less the same as what Pioli did. Jovic will be limited to opportunities when coming on as the second striker.

We need 9’s if we’re gonna stay with the current system.

    1. Nah. That actually makes sense. we might build a balanced team capable of winning something someday if we build with sense

  2. I might denounce myself as a Milan fan this season base on how the transfer market goes.. with the type of strikers the management drops their main target for.

In the likes if Borja and En Nesyri dropping Sesko and co. Borja did not get 10 league goals and not even 20 league, matches to his name. An I don’t see him better than jovic Colombo, Nasti, Pinamoti as second striker.

Talking of first striker I still prefer Sesko to Zirkee one season wonder kind. Sesko has proved himself for 3 season now and even have experience in both Eufa and Europe league

      1. Is this how to build a strong team that will challenges for trophy is every competition….. just look at who Juventus are bidding to strengthen their team. Inter are good to go and only need 1 or 2 additions but my own favourite Milan departing from priority target to plan C , D alternatives. With those zero IQ and clueless management who are even waiting and ready to cash in on Hernadez and

    1. Hahaha glory seeker try to seeking attention. Ppl think about chasing trophy while their club finance and foundation squad in shamble. Shame

      1. To you a striker like Broja and En Nesyri are players Milan need to catch up with Inter and compete among elite clubs in Europe… Madrid use to lead us with just 3 UEFA champions league trophy but can you ever think of matching them now with the qualities of players Milan manager have been signing past 5 season?

        1. Bro you can compare this club to madrid. Not even inter. Why? This club is start zear zero again after redbird acquisition. While inter and real already building their team more than 6 year ago.

“Well, we should not buy borja and buy mbappe or hallaand instead”. Plz give your credit card to management if you love this club. -_-. They not abramovic or radom arab guy. Your owner is investment company. They seek profit not glory.

“Well, we should have owner who pasionate about football, etc etc” keep dreaming or buy this club by your self. That type of owner is almost gone this day.

    1. Camarda is still a season or two away, at this phase in his developing he needs to be playing and not sitting on the bench IMO.

  3. Broja only makes sense on a loan with option. He clearly isn’t the pre-injury version of himself.

But we still have Okafor and Jovic. If Fonseca could figure out a two striker tactical alternative, they could benefit from each other’s movements in the box.

( That could require two DM’s though)

  4. No Need to buy Armando Broja now, if we got Joshua Zirkzee. Luka Jovic is proper backup striker (2nd STC) and Francesco Camarda should be the third STC.
