Good news has arrived regarding the condition of Olivier Giroud after he missed Sunday’s win against Lecce due to some Achilles discomfort.
As this morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport writes, Milan need Giroud and the striker is preparing to return in time for the head-to-head clash against Roma on Saturday at the Stadio Olimpico.
The most recent memory involving the Frenchman tells its own story: it was in the Champions League quarter-finals at the Maradona when Giroud – virtually on one leg after an earlier tackle – got on the end of Rafael Leao’s feed to score the goal that ended up securing a semi-final spot.
In the games that Giroud has not started, whoever replaced him – be it Ante Rebic or Divock Origi – did not offer close to the same qualities. Milan have the second-best attack in the league behind Napoli, and that is thanks to the goals of the former Chelsea man and Leao.
Giroud has played nearly every game this season and that is why the management had no problems handing another one-year deal even though he will turn 37.
During the 1-0 against Napoli in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the Champions League a bad tackle by Kim put a strain on the Achilles tendon of Giroud who gritted his teeth and played the second leg but rested against Lecce.
With such a big game against Roma next on the calendar and the centre-forward feeling better, the time has come for him to lead Milan once again.
