GdS: Gold rush as Pioli aims for new record and +7 advantage in Milan-Juve

AC Milan and Juventus will square off at San Siro this evening and Stefano Pioli could set a record. Per a report, he could become the first ever in Rossoneri history to go six consecutive games unbeaten against the Bianconeri.

Today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (see the featured image) highlights the fact that Pioli is five games unbeaten against Juventus – on par with Arrigo Sacchi and Nereo Rocco. Tonight, in the event of a draw or a win, he would become the first Milan manager to reach six consecutive games.

This is for league games, but it’s clear that a statistic like this one is tough to apply in the past. Things change, as the newspaper continues, and perhaps this record would be more of a receipt of Milan’s recent success plus Juve’s recent struggles.

In any case, Pioli is heading into the clash with a couple of goals: to leapfrog Inter and go +7 over Juve, a Scudetto rival for him. Furthermore, remaining undefeated against Juve for the sixth match in a row in Serie A.

How can he achieve this? Well, there are a few certainties for Milan: commanding the match, not allowing counter-attacks and defending well on set pieces. Then, of course, Antonio Mirante will also have to make his mark in goal.
