The wages have been a hot topic among AC Milan fans in the last few years, and while there is no formal salary cap, there is a clear trend in how much the Rossoneri are willing to fork out.
Ever since Elliott Management took control of the club, the terms salary cap has been thrown around in the media and among the fans. Indeed, Milan were incredibly strict with the wage bill for quite some time, especially since it even blocked some signings.

In recent years, however, there has been a change on this front with more and more money invested in player contracts. At least individually, as the overall picture will tell you that Milan are still pretty far behind their rivals (especially this season).
Higher salaries allowed
As reported by Gazzetta dello Sport, even though salary cap has been thrown around before, Milan have never had a formal limit on the wages. Broadly speaking, though, it was at around €4m when Elliott still owned the club and with RedBird, it has increased to around €7m.
Rafael Leao and Mike Maignan both earn upwards of €7m including bonuses per season, with the base salaries set at around €5m, and Christopher Nkunku also earns €5m. Since the Frenchman doesn’t benefit from the Growth Decree, he’s also the most expensive gross cost at €9.25m per season.

Nkunku getting 5M€/y is the most insane thing when it comes to anything related to AC Milan these days. How the f*** is that possible? Heads HAVE TO roll due to that colossal mistake. But then again, heads didn’t roll after the Royal Emerson farce either so… They’ll do it again next summer. 🤦♂️
Nothing about Nkunku trade makes any sense. So I’m resigned to think it’s a money laundering operation. I just can’t figure out the point of it.
Yeah, his agent is good with Tare. Same guy as in Lewandowski talks now. And a few more.
