GdS: Home derby sell-out expected for Milan – how Inter could lift the Scudetto

By Oliver Fisher -

The results over the weekend means that the gap between Inter in first and AC Milan in second remained at 14 points, and the possibility is increasing that the Scudetto could be decided in the derby.

La Gazzetta dello Sport asks the question, when can Inter win the title? Starting from the simplest aspects, having a 14 point advantage over the second in the table means winning the national title with four rounds to spare if the gap remains unchanged.

Translated into time: the end of April. The celebrations could be brought forward to mid-month in the event that the Rossoneri lost their next two matches and Inter won them, because 20 points behind with six games to go means the Scudetto is won. In the event of dropped point by the Nerazzurri, that day could obviously be postponed continuously from week to week.

The game on Monday 22 April is attracting interest. More specifically, Milan-Inter is scheduled at the San Siro, the last derby of the season: if everything remained unchanged then Inter would go into the match 14 points ahead and would need to win to overcome the 15 points available in the next five games.

In the event of a draw, that moment would be postponed by a week. It should be underlined, however, that in the event of a tie, neither the direct matches nor the goal difference count, because a final play-off is foreseen.

To reach the derby and a draw be good enough, Inter would have to enter the match with 16 points more than the Rossoneri thus gaining two points in the next two games. Milan-Lecce and Udinese-Inter first, Sassuolo-Milan and Inter-Cagliari after.

The same source also report that Milan are heading towards selling out the home section, which means that there will not be any free sale tickets for Inter fans to increase their presence inside the stadium.

The objective of Pioli’s team will now be to avoid their rivals’ celebration in front of almost 70,000 Diavolo supporters.
