GdS: A new spine with three signings – how Milan could line up in 2026-27

The summer is fast approaching and while most of the focus is on the season finale, plans have also begun for the 2026-27 campaign, with three proper reinforcements expected.

Gazzetta dello Sport reported this morning that Milan aren’t really worried about losing Allegri to the national team or another club this summer. They intend to satisfy his requests in the summer and also have plans to involve him more in decisions for the overall project.

As for satisfying his requests, three major reinforcements are expected to help bring this team to the next level. More signings will be needed overall, of course, but these three are ones that should help raise the quality immediately (like an Adrien Rabiot).

XI prediction for 2026-27

Yesterday’s edition of the pink newspaper even included a little prediction of how Milan could look come next season, adding the likes of Mario Gila, Leon Goretzka and Robert Lewandowski or Dusan Vlahovic to the current side in a 3-5-2 formation.

Milan XI 2026-27 Gazzetta

Potential XI in 2026-27: Maignan; Gila, Gabbia, Pavlovic; Saelemaekers, Goretzka, Modric, Rabiot, Bartesaghi; Vlahovic/Lewandowski, Pulisic.

It remains to be seen if the Rossoneri can even get these deals over the line, with Gila looking like the most likely one at the moment. Goretzka, Lewandowski and Vlahovic, meanwhile, will be more difficult as they will leave on free transfers.

In other words, there is a lot more interest from them, with Lewandowski (for example) having multiple options on the table.

  1. I love how the Italian press are pretending Goretzka is some kind of missing link that will propel Milan to past glories. He’s a squad player at Bayern.

    1. Yes, because you’re precious management is constantly getting star players from top clubs, damn that Italian press.

      1. That’s sadly true. Bayern VS Madrid was a showcase of how fast pace CL games have become and Milan with it’s current roster will get pummeled. But the other thing is that in that fast paced game, Goretzka didn’t even make an appearance, nor has he been starting for quite some time. So if we’re trying to adapt to CL football, maybe Goretzka isn’t the answer. In fact I’m questioning if he’s a useful option for us at all.

    2. ” He’s a squad player at Bayern.”

All the “squad players” in Bayern would be in the TOP-5 in Milan though.

  2. Not bad.

    Not convinced about Goretzka.

Think there needs to be someone more physical next to Modric and Rabiot.

Struggling to see what Fofana has done wrong.

    He’s missed chances.

But his job isn’t to score. He gets into some great positions and if he did manage to score he’d have been a phenomenon.

His assist record is pretty good but his overall involvement in goals winning back balls in the attacking half that lead to goals is extremely impressive.

Defensively he could do better in his own half but with Goretzka coming in it might kill whatever little attack they have.

    1. For me Fofana is like Saelemaekers in that he can be the best player on the pitch on his day, but he makes the wrong decision too often to be indispensable. Not necessarily his/their fault though as fluid attacking movement and cohesion have hardly been our strengths this year.

He’s also in this unfortunate position where Modric and Rabiot are undroppable and Allegri has 2 relatively expensive new signings who need chances, so he’s going to get dropped or subbed whatever he does.

This season has been miles better than last for him so hopefully he can press on one more time next year.

      1. I agree with that and maybe that’s why Fofana and Saelemaekers will never be good enough.

Fofana though does seem to make better decisions. Had players taken some of the chances he set up he’d have double the assists.

I think defensively is probably his biggest weakness.

    2. Agree with this. Fofana job isnt to score, should be Modric/ Rabiot. Fofana always miss the chance and play out of position. Thats why when milan losing the ball with counter attack, theres a hole in the middle..

      1. Yes he does leave a massive hole behind him and with Pavlovic on the other side it is really wonder they haven’t conceded more goals!

    1. That’s because the leadership isn’t interested in the core principle of our business which is calcio. Milan is being dismantled from something the die hard fans loved to something casual fans will enjoy.

  3. Glad someone else realizes Leao has been holding this club back, and Pulisic will likely shine much brighter next to the right strike partner.

  4. The strikers are realistic but lets be honest, the other two will get much better offers.

In the spirit of this being the internet and the transfer window opening in a mere two and a half months…it’s fantasy football time!

    Keep the 352.

Sell all the obvious loanees, Estupinan, Gimenez (because Allegri clearly doesn’t trust his game) and Leao (because it’s time).

Bring in one of those strikers.

Sign Rovella, Scalvini, Kean and competition for Bartesaghi.

Keep Cisse and Camarda around the first team and give them minutes – no dropping them down to Futuro (we need to learn from England here) – evaluate Zeroli but honestly, probably move him on.

  5. All this talk of a new spine is premature. Our brass has shown either complete disinterest in or absolute incompetence in actually wanting to improve the club on the sporting side.

Scaroni yesterday: our objective has always been Top4. And it will remain that was so long as there are capital gains and operating profits.

  6. LOL as if these names had A LOT of weight to them. Decent players but definitely not in the top 20 of their positions out there. Not even for Vlahovic, he is worse than Darwin Nunez.
