GdS: How Milan emerged victorious in Messias chase after Torino, Fiorentina and Napoli interest

By Oliver Fisher -

A journalist has offered some background on how Junior Messias ended up joining AC Milan from Crotone on deadline day.

Luigi Saporito of La Gazzetta dello Sport spoke to MilanNews about how Messias became a Milan player, confirming that the management have been watching him for quite some time but were not the only admirers, as Torino also wanted the player strongly.

Their head coach Ivan Juric – who still had good relations with Crotone – asked to bring Messias to Torino, but the problem was that the Granata could not fund such an expense after their other market operations. Fiorentina also set out to explore a deal, as did Napoli, but Milan moved strongest when they realised they could not get any of their main targets for the attacking midfield position.

In the middle of the night the managements met and from there the agreement was born, and it was the best deal that Crotone could get.

  1. People are going nuts over this transfer. Not ideal, but let’s keep in mind that he is on loan with no obligation. My hope is that he is more productive than Castillejo and Alexis, but that in the end they say thanks for your service and don’t sign permanently. Then in the summer of 2022 a longer term solution can be found.

  2. People are angry because he is cheap.
Guy is a workaholic and a good dribbler.
I think after few matches he will take starting spot on the right wing instead of Alexis/Castillejo.
