GdS: ‘And now Mbappe’ – how Milan should line up against PSG

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan need a response performance-wise and a positive result against Paris Saint-Germain as they aim to put a halt to their recent slide, which has seen them lose three of their last four.

According to what is being reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below), Milan’s starting line-up for the game against PSG tomorrow night at San Siro will finally go back to the one that Pioli considered his best before the various injuries.

The back four in front of Mike Maignan will be Davide Calabria on the right, Theo Hernandez on the left and a pairing of Malick Thiaw and Fikayo Tomori in the middle, meaning it will be the ‘first choice’ defence for the first time in five games.

In midfield Ruben Loftus-Cheek will return on the right to add some physicality, with Rade Krunic and Tijjani Reijnders tipped to keep their place. In attack Christian Pulisic returns to boost creativity, with Rafael Leao and Olivier Giroud still there.

Probable Milan XI (4-3-3): Maignan; Calabria, Thiaw, Tomori, Theo Hernandez; Loftus-Cheek, Krunic, Reijnders; Pulisic, Giroud, Leao.

    1. I am not against it. Adli is a good player but he defensively vulnerable and make a lot of useless fouls. Apart from them we don’t really have any other options, one thing would to start Musah as the 6 but that’s still not better because he prefers to play as a Mezzalla.

      1. What defensive work if we truly want to be objective. Krunic is ghosting on the pitch for series of games now, I watch all matches and I fit you get a heatmap of Krunic on the ball or on players on the ball, it will be a very faint one. Pioli is an enabler of bad players and this is what is destroying the dressing room

        1. I agree with you, but I don’t think Adli is much better than him on than. Adli would flourish much more as an 8 than as a 6. About Krunic, I don’t think he has the right attitude and quality to be a part of such a prestigious club. But I don’t think we should turn him and Pioli as the scapegoats for our recent form. Our management, medical staff, training facilities/staff should be questioned before everything. I also don’t think the dressing room is united.

    2. Yes he’s such a disaster he wasn’t at fault for any of the goals..let’s put Adli and Reinjders in… the people responsible for the goals in the first leg. But don’t let that cloud your judgement

      1. True, I don’t really like how Krunic is turned into the scapegoat for our bad form. Apart from that one unlucky deflection against Juve. He didn’t have any impactful errors which lead to goals.

        1. Krunic became an avenue for people’s frustrations I what I’m really inclined to believe. I like to see nice passing too but I also don’t like to see goals being conceded, and that’s pretty much the choice rn

  1. Who knows we might even win against PSG ..
With Loftus cheek back ,he should give the midfield a boost with his speed physical strength,,and ability to be able to pass a ball ⚽️…The midfield has not created much in the last couple of games ..
Very pleased that the trident up front looks very capable of scoring goals against anyone .that is pulisic rafeol leao and Olivier Giroud..so pleased that Theo Hernandez is back ..
We would love a positive result …We really need one .

  2. Starting AGAIN with dead wood Krunić,back pass guy of no use without, even worst with a ball, instead of Adli who is in life form????Humans stupidity is infinite….Ok…shall I comment this CL game in front?Closed,no movements and no balls to attackers at all.Slowly and zero technik boy Krunić will try to obtain Nr.6 against twice as fast players as he is.With not a single ball played up front, not even as disposer for RLC and Tijani.Because he can not do that.He would like to ,maybe, but he cannot!0:2 till halftime…..same thing in second….70.-th minute Okafor,Musah coming in….few solo experiments…..ending 0:3 for PSG.Commenst after game?”oh…it’s not fair…we were not compact in midfield….we got no balls up front….we were not in game mentaly…and so on.Always same s h i t!!!How can you expect different outcome with same premise????It’s imposible(ask Einstein!)Always the same old story, form game to game….No wonder players are raising their voice and rebelieren….DESASTER !!!!!Worst player at ACM since looong time, still starting CL game after desastrous last few games…..If I were a bad person I would wish him 6 months injury,at least….

    1. Wow, you need to chill and to spell and write normal sentences.

I mostly agree on Krunic. But this was our starting line up going into the season and that’s when we had our best games and results. So having this eleven back is hopefully a good thing.
Having Pulisic back to the right and Theo on the left is probably the most important additions. Seeing this eleven back on the field actually gives med some hope. Now it’s also down to form and our team has bad form and PSG good form so it will still be an incredibly tough match.

      1. What he wrote was unreadable. He even said “If I were a bad person I would wish him 6 months injury at least” how can someone pray for their own players to be injured lol.

        1. That’s my biggest gripe against Pioli and he has been proven wrong time and time again.

Pioli – Bad decisions, weird decisions, poor tactics, not learning from previous mistakes, poor pressing, too exposed at back, not practicing set pieces for 3 years now despite them destroying Milan, constant everything is fine attitude despite the performances being poor.

He just keeps doing the same thing over and over again thinking it will magically work but it never does.

Rejinders should have been rested last game. His last 3 games have been getting worse and worse. He’s playing atrociously now and he was much better at the start of the season.

I also tire of Krunic’s constant poor performances yet the guy starts every single game despite the fact he doesn’t know what he’s supposed to do in his role. Passing? Nah. Defense? Nah. Pushing up the field? Nah. King of the backpass.

Milan needs fresh ideas and Pioli is all out and has no idea what to do here. He caused the problems yet can’t fix them tactically either. His son Krunic, needs to go with him too. I’d rather someone who will fight for his spot on the field and play for the team.

It’s time. If we don’t, next season CL could be at risk.

    1. I think you may be right. Hopefully with our regular team back he can get back his confidence. I’ll give him one last chance. If he can’t perform this game, he should be benched.

  3. As much as I consider Adli to be better than Krunic overall, I do agree with many here.
Adli is bad defensively and his mistakes did result in goals against us. Krunic, while more limited technically, is better defensively (but not very good either).
So what solutions do we have ? We don’t have a true DM (thanks you Furlani and Moncada). Perhaps try Musah as a DM, but he has never played in that position before so it’s a very risky gamble. Or perhaps we can still use krunic as a DM and have RLC and Mush as CM to have more physical presence in the midfield (since Reijnders needs to rest anyways), but that’s just my crazy idea.
