GdS: Ibrahimovic declines Sweden call-up – a possible hint about his future

Zlatan Ibrahimovic will not take part in the Nations League matches scheduled for June with Sweden, and it could be a clue about his future.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Calciomercato.com) report that the news will soon be made official by coach Janne Andersson at a press conference, which is that the Rossoneri striker would have liked to respond to the call-up to give another contribution to his national team, but he preferred not to risk it.

He is far from being in the best physical condition with various annoyances such as repeated overloads in the left knee, and it is restricting him to playing just a few minutes off the bench. He did not even come on at all during the 2-0 home success against Atalanta.

It is not excluded that Ibrahimovic may return to the national team later, as he did in the past, but at this particular moment in his career he will first have to decide his future. The match against Sassuolo on Sunday is his focus and he wants to win the Scudetto with Milan, then his future will be talked about.

  1. such hint isnt really clear in my book as it could mean that he has decided to end his career but could just as well mean that he wants to be fit for the 22/23 season. Rememeber calabria was in the cards for the 2021 euros but decided to get a surgery so he would be ready from the start of this one.

    1. More likely that he will continue as he would want a Grand Finale -ending in both national team and club team. He’s definitely not the modest ones who retire without a farewell party.

He wants to be fit for his last season.

      1. bb I think so too because it simply isnt who he is but you never know if he cant play then he might have to stop but i just hope both for his own health and for the sake of the teams further development that he will accept a role of becoming a coach/player and that he doesnt end up standing in the way of us aquirring 1 more player upfront than origi. Imagine us having origi, giroud. belotti or an expenssive marquee signing with ibra just as a backup when called upon or as much as his health allows it. It would be deadly regardless of who starts,
Personally i would really like us to sign belotti as i do believe he would be amazing with a better club and i believe our style would suit him but it would also allow us to make other moves and if we could fork up for example maybe 120 mil we might be able to get ketelaere + botman+ sanches + berradi and our team with those upgrades would be able to challenge any team. Anyways cant wait for sunday but the next transfer window will be interesting even if the club isnt sold as i do recall gazidis or someone else from the management saying that they was planing to invest 100 mil this summer.
