Zlatan Ibrahimovic is currently recovering from the knee surgery he underwent last summer and while the return date is uncertain, his future isn’t. In fact, an ambassador role at AC Milan is ready, a report claims.
The Swede was expected to be back at the start of 2023, give or take, and the recovery has experienced no significant setbacks thus far. However, the process will not be rushed and thus the return date is unknown.
As per Gazzetta Dello Sport (via SempreMilan), Ibrahimovic won’t be available for the first leg against Tottenham in the Champions League. Possibly the second leg, but given how little he has played over the last 12 months his condition will have to be assessed carefully.
Just like at the end of last season, he could get a ‘super sub’ role, playing just a few minutes when needed but still making a difference. Even with a severely injured knee, he made a difference in the Scudetto season off the bench (for example, against Lazio).
The physical struggles most likely mean that he will retire from his playing career at the end of the season. Milan will try to keep him in the club, though, by offering him an ambassador role and that would be very wise given Ibrahimovic’s reach.
