GdS: Injuries and exits – four players show why Milan need a midfield rebuild

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan’s midfield is going to look very different next season and there are four main players that are behind the change.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (as seen below), between injuries, loans not redeemed and sales, the fabric of the Rossoneri midfield will be very different next season.

The four players in question are Sandro Tonali, Ismael Bennacer, Aster Vranckx and Brahim Diaz.

Sandro Tonali: The most simple of them all, Tonali is soon to have his move to Newcastle United finalised and that removes one of Stefano Pioli’s most important players from the squad.

Ismael Bennacer: There was a time when Bennacer seemed as though he could leave, but he is now out with a serious knee injury and he is not expected back until a chunk of next season has already been played.

Brahim Diaz: There was an assumption at Milan that when Diaz’s loan spell came to an end, a cut-price deal would be possible with Real Madrid. Circumstances meant that he has a role to play for Los Blancos and he has now departed.

Aster Vranckx: Whilst not a key part of the team by any means in 2022/23, Vranckx was expected to be a better midfielder for Milan who would then form a part of the team more seriously in 2023/24.

  1. and here lies the monumental F up that moneyball moron has made. We had a weak midfield with Sandro….Loftus Cheek is a terrible move…he isnt good enough. I was right about Origi and i am right about him.

Right now we need 3-4 midfielders.
