GdS: Inter-Milan a derby that leads Europe in attack and defence

By Oliver Fisher -

The eyes of all of Europe will focus on the derby between Inter and AC Milan this evening, and the numbers show that the city is a leader in the continent.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) writes how none of the other major cities in Europe boast two teams who have started the season as strongly as Inter an Milan.

The two teams at the top of the goals scored table, considering Manchester, Madrid and London as other competitors. In terms of average total goals scored, Inter and Milan are at 5.4 goals per game, followed by Real and Atletico at 5.3, then Arsenal and Tottenham on 4.8; City and United on 4.1.

The Nerazzurri and Rossoneri are also top of the pile when it comes to average goals conceded (thanks above all to Inter, with three games played and as many clean sheets).

The two sides have conceded, on average, 0.7 combined goals per game. Real and Atletico Madrid are on 0.8, Tottenham and Arsenal are at 2, while City and United are on 2.3.

The stadium is also a record holder: no one brings so many spectators to the stands more than San Siro and tonight it will be sold out again.
