GdS: Inter-Milan derby expected to set Italian football record – the details

By Oliver Fisher -

The upcoming derby between Inter and AC Milan later in the month is expected to break records in terms of single-game revenue in Italian football, a report claims.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport report, there is a high probability that the first derby of the season will become the richest match ever in the history of Serie A. We are heading towards €7m in revenues, overtaking the €6.6m of Inter-Juventus back in October 2019.

At the time of that game, Juve had been calling the shots for eight years, while Inter – in their second season under Suning – had just started a new era under the former Bianconeri director Beppe Marotta and their old head coach Antonio Conte.

Five years later, the hierarchies have been overturned: Inter have won two Scudetti, played a Champions League final and are the team to beat in Serie A. Marotta has become their president, Oaktree took over the club, while their captain Lautaro is in the Ballon d’Or shortlist.

Inter meanwhile have also won six derbies in a row. Before the triumph that certified the 20th Scudetto last season there was the 5-1 in the first game, then the two Champions League semi-final legs won, the Supercoppa Italiana and a 1-0 league derby win before that.

Naturally, no one will want to miss the next instalment: it will be the first derby that Inter will play with the Scudetto and a double star on their chest, and the show will take place in a stadium dressed up for the occasion by the fans who are champions of Italy.

In the days that will precede and follow the challenge against the Rossoneri, in cinemas all over Italy, ‘Inter: Two stars on the heart’ will be shown, the film-event that celebrates the star’s Scudetto. All the motivation Milan need to end their horrific run and get back to winning derbies.
