GdS: Kalulu named MOTM for Juventus against Napoli – ‘Him for Emerson Royal?’

Pierre Kalulu has started his loan spell at Juventus in the best way possible and as a result, AC Milan fans are questioning the management’s decision to let him go. As highlighted by a newspaper, he was the best player for the Bianconeri against Napoli last night.

Kalulu played from start in the centre-back position for Juventus last night and helped his side keep a clean sheet in the 0-0 draw. As per Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo below), he was the best player in Thiago Motta’s side with a rating of 7/10.

“Make us understand: Milan sold Kalulu for Emerson Royal? Is that correct? Kalulu at Juve looks like Ruben Dias, Emerson Royal at Milan looks like Emerson Royal,” the motivation read as more people are starting to see what a strange decision it was.

Milan paid around €15m for Emerson Royal and James Horncastle has previously called it the ‘biggest donation in Fondazione Milan history’. Furthermore, before he eventually decided to leave, Kalulu was hesitant and would have liked to remain at Milanello to fight for a spot.

Unless he shows something in the derby tonight, Emerson Royal will continue to be heavily criticised by the fans and rightfully so.

    1. Ye Bremer was MOTM for sure but Kalulu put a performance worthy of MOTM as well. Idk if it was manager decision or management but for sure one of the worst decisions to let him go

    1. No, the way the loan is written Juventus have the control about whether to buy him or not.

Selling Kalulu was always a risk; he could be an excellent player but his last couple of years have seen a lot of injuries. He deserves some good luck though, was a complete pro for us.

    1. Ayala was a tiger..roque Jnr was just hyped because he was brazilian..same with Emerson royal..he is not in the mould of TS 33 at all!!!

  1. This is Fonseca job. He wanted Emerson. Problem is letting Pioli go for Fonseca was disastrous move

But… eventually Red Bird will settle all their bills… 🙂

  2. We had 5 RBs inclunding Kalulu (Calabria, Florenzi, Kalulu, Terracciano and Jimenez), and our genius management decided to give this guy to our rivals and spend a fifth of our budget on Emerson Royal.
I’m not going to elaborate further, so far this action speaks for itself.

      1. I know but Juventus will buy him for that kind of money. It is nothing even if he ends up as substitute. And I doubt that he will end up like that.

        1. Yes. Juve high possibility buy kalulu. Because kalulu is cheap. 13 million (including add on), without add on maybe 10 million. Cheaper than emerson royal

      2. best part in this is Kalulu cost us 3M gross (2M-400k bonus net) and Emerson costs us 4.6M gross (2.5M net).

So we are paying more and getting less. #slowclap

  3. The moment we realize this manangement is the problem of Milan the better.

I wonder when Curva Sud will start raising their flags for all these management to leave the club

Am so disappointed, if time is not taking, we are going back to the banter era.

  4. When you have people from another country, zlatan( Swedish) Moncada( french) Fonseca( Portuguese) Furlani(American-italian) and Cardinale( a fund hedge country)… You can easily tell what the performance of the institution they oversee will perform!… None can have a vernacular understanding of the value and importance of the club settings, that’s why they are wrong to think Franco Baresi or Maasaro equally pulls the same weight as Maldini!… This club already regretting sacking Maldini but wouldn’t admit honestly.

    1. Exactly. ACM needs Italian directors and Italian players.

The loss of M&M two years ago was a heavy heavy loss. But I guess Maldini was not enough yes man for Clowndinale

  5. Kalulu a modern center back that can play in 3 man defence, 4 man defence as CB or RB. Won Serie A with Milan, has been a vital part of the team that season. Sold to Juve so they can win titles and Emerson who didn’t have a single good season in his life was bought for more money. If that doesn’t get those clowns fired nothing will. I have never seen a worse transfer move. It is like giving gold for s**t and bragging about it like Ibra.

    1. A few years agoMilan sold Locatelli to Juve.
      Good for him !
At least he plays good and is respected at Juve.
      This year we brought Fofana…
This name is famous in french football, but we have only a player with that…. 😔

  6. I always try to look at the positives but there is no more positives to be had. Elliott did the job of building us up again, and now we’re turning into the Yankees, just commercial sports, no results on the pitch, I’ve been trying hard to remain positive but since winning the Scudetto we’ve just gotten worse year by year.

  7. Shocker, Redbird are clueless useless fools. From letting Maldini to to Tonali to now Kalulu they always manage to make the wrong decision and their fixes/replacements are always worse.

  8. please milan if you get a n offer for royal saudi mls or something accept the offer and if he dont want to leave force him to leave i cant with emerson kalulu is doing good and loaning him out was a mistake

  9. A player that was a top defender for us being exchanged for one that never fulfilled any of his potential or expectations. It is insanity. The constant HIGH turnover of employees in this field will KILL you for years! When will people understand we had to have someone in our offices and sporting departments to contest, push and constantly contest, challenge these people running the team?

They made so many amateur decisions and showed flaws in sports management that anyone with the slightest knowledge of this sport could pick out.

People defend them here and claim we are negative for calling out bullshit. You always lose when you let go of your best assets, it always costs you more to replace them, especially when you don’t do a proper transition and it is executed abruptly. This is not a difficult concept to grasp. This isn’t an office or a job where you fiddle with numbers or perform tasks that anyone else with the same degree as you can replace you effectively. There are way too many nuances to think a Kessie, Tonali and Hakan can be replaced by a Krunic, Loftus Cheek or Musah. You can’t expect a Bennacer to play like a Kessie and or Tonali. These players have unique traits that are expensive to interchange. The combination of physical, technical skills, coupled with durability, psychological and character aspect is one you can only determine when you are in possession of that asset and develop it with invaluable time. This isn’t stocks or office employees we are dealing with that KPIs and stats alome will tell you how they will perform.

There is no substitution for a proven commodity at a lesser price in this level of sports, your proven asset has to train and build your liability on hand. A coaching staff alone, no matter how amazing they are, cannot do that with just training or tactics. There is a baseline of investment required and it takes a lot of time to do it properly.

    1. Great comment, i appreciated it as i dont have the heart to get upset about Kalulu.

Hes a classy player, elegant, good on the ball, very calm, athletic. He may not be built like Pavlovic but good defenders come in all shapes. His ideal spot would be the right side of the Inter Milan back 3..
He should have been our counter balance to Theo, shifting the defence into a back 3 when needed.
I was at San Siro when his beautiful cross for Leao was the only goal of the game.

I hope by some miracle we get him back, but he probably wouldn’t want to after being pushed out for that “player” from Tottenham

Many of the new breed here were happy to see him go. As I always say, class is permanent, form is temporary

  10. Sad truth is, Kalulu couldn’t stay fit and consistent enough at Milan to earn a stay.

Even sadder truth is that Emerson at this point is worse than the Kalulu we let go.

Optimism: Kalulu is only out on loan with an option. We bring him back next summer, let Calabria go (doesn’t sound like he’ll get a renewal) then keep Emerson on the bench.

    1. Kalulu only started to get heavily injured starting from 2023. He might be an injury in the making, but this isn’t a Bennacer case (not yet at least).
But even with that, we could have afforded to keep him and just start someone else when he isn’t fit.
So far Royal is worse than any of our RBs aside from maybe Terracciano and we spent a fifth of our budget on him. Those 15M€ could have been used in a much better fashion.
Let’s hope we can somehow manage to bring him back in the summer.

    2. What are you talking about? There is no buy-back in Kalulu’s loan agreement with Juve. There is just an option to buy in their favor. So, he’s gone. We have lost him.

Yes, he had injury issues but he is young and it’s not a given that he will continue to be injury-prone. Sending him out for Emerson Royal was an absolute blunder (who doesn’t know that he is a far better player than Royal???) and unfortunately, no, we won’t be able to get him back, unless, God forbid for the nice Kalulu’s sake, he gets badly injured and then Juve ships the hot potato back to us.

This formula of option to buy with no buy-back clause only favors Juve, not us. And to make it worse, we strengthened a rival. There’s been rarely such a stupid move like this one (shipping out Bonucci to bring in Caldara was similar).

  11. Kalulu, Simic, Teo, Jimenes would win us at least 4 matches this season. This is beyond stupid. It is a deliberate crime against Milan! They should not only resign they probably are all on Inter and Juve payroll via agent fees — jail time awaits.

    1. Simic actually wasn’t their fault. He wanted to leave.

But Kalulu did not want to leave, and he was pushed out the door for the sake of that bum Emerson Royal. That’s historically bad.

Álex Jiménez is actually not that good. He can’t defend for his life. He is good at supporting the offense, but that’s it. Since our problem is much more an issue of weak defending rather than lack of offensive options, Jiménez doesn’t help us that much.
