GdS: Leao’s €175m clause active – Milan calm but ‘madness’ cannot be ruled out

By Oliver Fisher -

The 2024 summer transfer window officially began yesterday and Rafael Leao’s release clause is therefore now active, but AC Milan are reportedly calm about his future.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) report, the €175m release clause in Leao’s contract can now be triggered by any club who has the financial capabilities to do so, but for the moment there is nothing to worry about because he is not for sale.

Milan are rather calm about the future of the winger and meeting in Portugal’s training camp in Germany between the player and the new coach Paulo Fonseca confirms that the Rossoneri want to bet on him and have no intention of letting him go.

In the transfer market, however, the rule of ‘never say never’ applies, especially in light of the interest from Saudi clubs. Leao’s father, Antonio, has appointed a trusted intermediary to better investigate the matter, even if it will be very difficult to present a proposal that will tease the player and convince Milan.

A small door must be left open in the event of ‘madness’ on the part of a top European club, with Paris Saint-Germain – who lost Kylian Mbappe – a potential suitor, even if they seem to prefer Kvaratskhelia.

  1. His had a terrible euros so far. He is very gifted no doubt but its now or never if we wants to fulfill his true potential. If any club offers anything near his release clause we should sell. For me his worth sacrificing. In saying that, I doubt he will go to Saudi or any big club will offer silly money for him.

      1. Very good or decent? Excluding one good pass in the box I saw the usual Leao: gets by the opponent every now and then only to deliver nothing. The end product was missing again.

        1. I thought he was very good against a very well organised defence, he was the main threat Portugal posed.
His attitude and work rate was also good

    1. “His had a terrible euros so far.”
By your logic, Inter should also sells Barella and Dimarco since they also had a terrible Euro.
National competitions aren’t always a good metric.

  2. Please EPL clubs or PSG offer leao nearly his release clause. So milan have some money to jump in to transfer market. 125 -150m with 3 years installment would be the best bargain

    1. And that makes sense how? Milan won’t pay 15m comission to Kia Joorabchian so your 125m will go on nime 25m players. Rightly or wrongly Milan have made a statement to at they aren’t at the table to pay the money required for top talent.

Leao needs coaching, he looks a bit lost right now. He has phenomenal talent

    1. Agreed… But at the same time, Leao has to take the next step in quality. Can’t coast on his good looks and charming personality forever…

      1. Milan have no money to jump in to transfer market. They have to sell first. 100m for milan player, it could be one hit wonder. So do it now or never..
