There is now a lot of optimism regarding the renewal of Rafael Leao and a signature could arrive soon, according to a report.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) this morning, the negotiations are close to reaching a positive conclusion as Leao and Milan have reached a verbal agreement over an extension.
A deal has been struck in principle thanks to the willingness of the player and his family, plus the Milan management of course, who are offering a five-year deal worth €7m net per season plus a €2m signing bonus.
This marks a big increase from the €1.5m net per year he currently earns, but the Growth Decree still applies and that means that the total expenditure would be just short of €50m when considering the gross (pre-tax) amount.
However, the Sporting CP fine issue remains to be resolved. Currently the value of the compensation stands at €16.5m but the Portuguese club recently appealed to UEFA to try obtain the €45m release clause he had in his deal with them.
Milan want nothing to do with the matter directly and can do little to influence things, but the Sporting-Leao-Lille triangle are looking for a solution that satisfies everyone and can, indirectly, also unlock the agreement between the winger and Milan.

Yeah i read it too on fabrizio romano FP that news. Romano only say club pushing to get it done but if no response from leao side then it is useless. Leao want to find club that are willing free him from sporting ( pay his debt to sporting ) . More complicated if sporting win in court for 45m euro compensation

unlikely to happen but the fact that romano said ithat “the agreement is getting closer” should count for more than when other news sites posts something because he is most often correct iin what he says.

Fabrizio Romano isnt some dude who spout nonsense so this news kinda reassuring at least for now unlike the thousand same articles that we’ve had been read till now
Exactly why its a reasuring statement because generally i couldnt give a damn about football rumors as its tends to be mere gossip in the same line of what news of the world could come up with. When romano starts to talk its generally correct and thats also why he is widely respected.
And if sporting wins who will pay the 45 mil? Lille will not even if they got him for free, and the player wins 1.5 mil/year atm..
