After being decisive in the Champions League second leg against Napoli with that incredible run for Olivier Giroud’s goal, Rafael Leao also decided last night’s league match against Lecce.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) recalls this morning, Leao scored a brace yesterday at San Siro with a goal from his head and his left foot, meaning he has recovered from his slump earlier in the year and now seems to be back to his best.

When the Portuguese winger accelerates like this, the whole team seem to move with him and now Rafa has moved on to 12 goals in the current league campaign, his most ever in a single season.

“It’s nice to score. I thought about it before the match, today I had to score,” he said after the game, and there is no doubting his importance now as the race for the top four tightens up.

After the game against Napoli he said: “I’m very happy to be here, Milan is my home. Do I want to stay? Yes, but there are other things to sort out.” Now, there is even more optimism regarding his renewal.

The matter that complicates everything is the fine owed to Sporting CP but not the will of the player or Milan, who both want to move forward together. However, without pen on paper, words are of little use.
