GdS: Leao in world-class form as renewal dilemma returns to spotlight

By Isak Möller -

Rafael Leao was the key player for AC Milan in their 3-2 win against Inter last night, bagging a brace and providing an assist. Therefore, his contract situation has inevitably ended up in the spotlight again.

After a rough start to the season, receiving some criticism from the media, Leao has found his groove and yesterday he was unplayable. In one of the most important games of the season he stepped up, as highlighted by Gazzetta Dello Sport (via MilanNews).

His impact was there for anyone to see and it’s clear that Milan need to make a proper attempt at renewing his contract. The fate of the winger is now in the hands of Gerry Cardinale, the new owner of the Rossoneri, who was present at the game.

If it wasn’t obvious prior to last night’s game, Leao has made it clear that Milan would struggle to replace him in the near future. One of the main goals for Cardinale and RedBird is thus to renew his contract and avoid a backlash.

  1. The man who plays with a smile on his face, he was smiling through out the run & dribble for his second goal, as if he had already foreseen the goal before even making an attempt.

  2. It’s very obvious Leao is on form today. But let’s settle down. Not to
Take anything away from Leao, but can he perform 2 or at least 3 games in a row at this level? A good example is Mike, he perform superbly every single game., day in day out.

    1. Yep. Let’s see if he can keep that level against worse opponents such as Salzburg & Sampdoria. That was only one match in ~40. Forget the last match and focus on the next. That’s what any sensible coach would say too.

      1. So you become the coach by posting a comment here 😆😆😆
No player scores 20 goals in a row. If someone scores they will ask 20million or 30million salary.
By the way his improvement he showcase himself is awesome, I don’t understand why there are some blank heads who always criticise.
Don’t see a positive side, at least believe what Zlatan says.
I have seen many posts last week criticizing his 14goals+12assists last season but we have only one such winger in last 10years.
Now everyone criticise the consistency, no forward player have it unless their dream season.
Leao is far away from his dream season, he has a lot of work to do for such kind of season but he started playing regular season as starter last season how can you expect his as a godfather of football.

There is M&M whose job is to decide please stop useless points.

    2. If Leao can perform at this level for 2 or 3 games, can you stop comment on everything in this forum until the end of the season…? Dare..?

    1. @Yelnats24, it’s 3goals and 2assists in two games….. He was off in the remaining games🤣. I feel he plays only when he wants to. He should’ve done this against Sassuolo to amass more points

  3. @ABDURRAHMAN serie a teams are using low block system against milan and marking leao with several players. Lastly it wouldn’t be always greener in everything we do day to day.

    1. Good observation Mjee.
Inzaghi and his players refused to respect Leao. They probably felt that their star studded team had what it needed to cover him on his wing.
They must have realised a little too late.
And please, Pioli should never bring Diaz in after removing CDK. Adli is the best substitute for Charles.

  4. Finantial sustainability is very important and yada yada yada… ok!

But there are extraordinary situations, points outside the curve that forcefully create exceptions to the rule, any fvckin rule: and an amazing player, an ace of the stature of Rafael Leão constitutes exactly one of those cases. An effort beyond the normal proceedings needs to be made to renew his contract and ensure that one of the greatest talents of the current generation continues to play for Milan.
