GdS: Lukaku interested in Milan move – meeting with Chelsea in London planned

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are interested in the idea of signing Romelu Lukaku this summer and the interest is mutual, according to a report.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Lukaku is ‘an alternative idea’ for Milan that has taken hold. Lukaku has returned to Chelsea after a year on loan at Roma and wants to stay in Italy.

Napoli is a welcome destination, because Antonio Conte is there and during their time at Inter they got along very well together. A few days ago everything seemed ready for the big exchange: Osimhen to Chelsea, Lukaku to Napoli and with a cash sum involved.

Like almost all seemingly clear-cut mercato deadlings, it got complicated. Chelsea, with Enzo Maresca in charge, are no longer so interested in Osimhen, so everything comes back into question.

Milan, despite the Belgian’s past at Inter, are very attentive. The management consider Lukaku an interesting profile, they have spoken about the idea with agents and intermediaries and next week they will will move.

A trip to London to talk to Chelsea is possible and the starting positions are clear: Milan are looking for him on loan, for now the Blues are only open to a permanent transfer. Lukaku has a clause of €45m and Chelsea will not accept less for now. In a few weeks, everything could change.

It is interesting to note that Lukaku, despite his connection to Inter, is absolutely interested in the idea of joining Milan. He would return with great pleasure to Milan, where he could keep his salary of €7.5m net per season with the benefits of the Growth Decree.

Of course, he has a thorny history with Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Ibrahimovic and Rom tolerated each other very little on the pitch and very little off it, but they can find a way to coexist, as a director and a player.

However, there is no doubt about the reaction of the Inter fans, who expressed their feelings towards the former Anderlecht man a summer ago when he did not return. An Inter-Milan derby with Lukaku as a Rossoneri would be explosive.

  1. I’m not pro lukaku but I’m not against lukaku either.. such are the times, at least he is a proven ST unlike all these 50+M “target”

      1. Idk. I’m more than happy to give Okafor the starting spot. See what happens. I don’t like lukaku but he is an all-round striker. Not just a heavy anchor

    1. Because he’s a good and proven striker and goal scorer. Plus the fact that he’s only coming on loan and Milan will still sign a younger striker.

    2. A quick overview will show you that, overall, Lukaku has been a better striker in his career than Giroud. Given how well Giroud did for us, relatively speaking, signing a better striker who has the same characteristics, at a younger age (Lukaku is 31, Giroud was 34 when he arrived), seems like pretty good reasoning.

I think people like you are just not comfortable with the idea that he played for Inter. Personally I think disqualifying someone for that is shortsighted. Otherwise we should never had signed Seedorf and Pirlo, and clearly it would have been stupid if we hadn’t.

    3. “Why are milan fans not up in hands about this?” Well the Curva sh.ot themselves in the foot by prematurely protesting the first appointment only to realize they could have swayed the club into an even worse direction (potentially) and they don’t even know who they really wanted and the effect of each/any subsequent protests would diminish the/their usefulness from that standpoint.

  2. He can come as a backup for the new (young) #9 if it’s a free loan and Chelsea pays half of his wages. No to everything else.

    1. We already have Okafor and we will possibly extend to Jovic. If you want another striker + Lukaku, you will have to ditch one of the formers (I suppose Jovic).
Lukaku can be a good deal but also can be catastrophically bad.

    1. Who knows. They got him because Abraham was injured and ofc his big a$$ salary is probably paying a big part on the why..

That was a pun btw, salary- paying

    2. May be his price is too expensive for 30 years player. He is not the same lukaku at inter under conte.. inzaghi failed to get the best out of him.. mourinho failed also but this is debatable. And de rossi it’s not to enthusiast to keep him at roma.

    3. The answer is so obvious and well established that I almost don’t want to bother: they don’t have the money.

  3. Zirkzee is my favourite but if not, I perfer Lukaku who knows Serie A well than the likes of Guirassy, Gimenez and co.

  4. I have said it before and I will say it again and again Inter is dominant against Milan six in a role in order to challenge inter we need a striker like Icardi or Lukaku

  5. Remember how milan fan mocked him, calling him a defender for opposing team because in two final (uefa cup and champion league) he messed up.. and then the fact that he always want it to be treated like a king. Let alone be back up player. He abandoned inter last summer because inter approached thuram. He didn’t want to compete with him. Last season he disappointed because he play less than dzeko. When he don’t play much he will complain that is what happen in chelsea. It is so interesting if milan management truly choosing lukaku over the other striker.

  6. I dont mind this move. Sounds like we are signing 2 strikers, if Zirkze is signed as well then we are covered up front. We have Camada waiting to become a milan legend in 2-3 years and Lukaku provides cover for the same amount of time.
