GdS: ‘Lukaku, the first yes’ – Milan explore deal as Chelsea’s stance emerges

By Oliver Fisher -

Romelu Lukaku has apparently given his approval to the idea of joining AC Milan and the club are exploring a deal with Chelsea, a report claims.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport report, Lukaku has been criticised at the European Championship and yesterday he and Kevin De Bruyne failed to get past Ukraine, which means they will now place France on July 1st in Düsseldorf.

However, Milan called for Lukaku and made it clear that they are keen, considering him a ‘very interesting solution’ to their striker dilemma. The No.1 target in the spring was Joshua Zirkzee but negotiations have stalled, so alternatives are being looked at.

Conte courtship

Lukaku has no objections to the idea of joining Milan. He was at Inter but that ended on a sour note, while he and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have clashed before but a reconciliation doesn’t seem difficult to imagine.

The striker at present considers Milan and Napoli two interesting solutions. He didn’t say no and he is ready to consider a transfer that would allow him to stay in Italy for at least another year. His lawyer, Sebastien Ledure, could soon return to work, in Milano or Naples.

The new Napoli boss Conte was clear yesterday: “Lukaku is an excellent player like Osimhen, there is no comment to make about them but only to admire them when they play. You always want to hope to have them on your side and never against you.”

Chelsea’s stance

To solve the riddle then you need to make a call to Chelsea and ask what they want to do with Romelu. The answer is that they would like to sell him on a permanent basis to try recoup some of what they paid.

The Blues are currently not open to any loan deals, which is the ‘ideal solution’ for Milan. Lukaku still has two years left on his contract and for Chelsea it’s time to sell him, with a €43m release clause in his deal.

There are two paths: an offer of €25-30m would be enough, or they can wait and negotiate with Chelsea, potentially in late August when their stance might have softened. Victor Osimhen’s potential sale and the Zirkzee soap opera will have a big say.

    1. Kaku should only come here if it is to be the reserve striker. There is no
way that he should be Milan’s top striker at the beginning of the season.

  1. The lukaku idea idea is bankrupt. Please!!! lay the lukaku attempt to rest. We need a young and vibrant youngster. Lukaku has nothing new to prove

  2. being impartial, if it’s a good deal, Milan should at least explore it. Lukaku is a good striker, period. However, the deal is not there yet. Make him lower his salary to close to 4 and chelsea to accept 15-ish, and i’m on board.
It’s not long term fix but if it’s a deal, it’s a deal, you know. Like Grioud, he was a good deal and not a long term fix but we took it.

    1. Yes and the short term fix was meant to be a SHORT TERM FIX, not a short term fix before another short term fix….remember back to last summer……next mercato will all be about the 20 plus goal per season striker who will be with us for 5 plus years…..just as the new coach was a sideways move, so the striker will be also

      1. Do we really need a long term fix? We have Camarda coming up. Show him you mean it and try to get the most out of him starting with a very positive mindset. Where if you get Zirkzee that mindset might change somehow who knows.
Lukaku is a proven striker who played his best football in Italian league. + he still has a bone to pick with Inter. How can you be against it?

    2. Definitely with you Daniel. We need experience more than we need talent. Romelu knows Serie A, he sucks at the euros right now because Tedescu has no clue how to use him. If you use him right (Lukaku shielding his opponent like a basketball player and make little 1-2s), he is a way greater asset than Zirkzee or any of those young kids mentioned here. If we can get his mojo back and let him combine, that could be real fire. And it would show that the management not only has the moneyball system in their mind.
We would be best off with a guy like Lukaku or Morata.

    1. Why can’t Milan trust Colombo, Maldini, Jovic and Okafor for the striking role? With Leão, Pulisic as wingers, Milan is good up front. Milan only needs deputies now in the various positions and not to scatter the team again.

Adli, Reinjders, Musah, Ruben and a Krunic kind of player could be recruited.

Milan just needs work on the defence which Salemerkers could be converted to a right back and a deputy should be provided for Theo.

      Milan can win the tittle
