Romelu Lukaku isn’t expected to feature for Napoli against AC Milan on Easter Monday, having gone against the orders of the club by training in Belgium.
Lukaku has only been playing a few minutes here and there since the end of January, still struggling to regain top condition after a troublesome injury. As such, despite not being called up by Belgium, he decided to head back to Antwerp to improve his condition with a personal trainer during the break.
The problem, as Gazzetta dello Sport reports (see featured image), is that the striker didn’t ask for Napoli’s permission to do so. The club was thus expecting to see him at the training ground on Thursday, but he’s yet to show himself in Naples.
Trouble for Lukaku
Per the newspaper, Napoli are furious with his behaviour and a fine is almost definitely set to be handed out, while the game against Milan has been ruled out for him (99%, anyway). Should he not arrive at the training ground on Tuesday, then he would be excluded from the squad completely.
Regardless of how the matter ends, a summer move is more or less certain for the player as the relationship with the club is on its last legs. Not to mention that the striker hasn’t exactly been brilliant this season, missing so many games due to injuries.
From Milan’s point of view, it’s hard to tell whether this is a bonus or not, but the 32-year-old has certainly scored against the Rossoneri before…
