GdS: ‘Should be no problems’ – Maignan and Calabria seem fine ahead of Milan derby

Aside from the result, and the football itself, two of AC Milan’s biggest worries from the Liverpool game was the injuries which Davide Calabria and Mike Maignan received. However, some positive news has arrived about their conditions.

Throughout Tuesday’s game, Maignan was clearly struggling with an issue in his leg after an early goal kick. It wasn’t until the 58th minute that the Frenchman could not continue, though, and after a big knock, he was substituted off.

Concern had been in place all game due to his persistent struggles, but when he left the pitch he was visibly upset, leading Milan fans to expect the worst and even question his renewal. Although not as serious, Calabria was also taken from the field, with the defender struggling with a problem.

When the Italian left the field he was limping, and there was a concern about what the reasoning for his leave would go down to. However, the fears about both players can be gone now.

According to reports from Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below), the Frenchman is better and there do not seem to be any doubts about his position between the sticks on Sunday. The same can be said for Calabria, who has no problems after his calf issue against Liverpool.

Additionally, there should be a boost provided by Malick Thiaw’s potential return to the bench. Whilst he is not ready to start, he should be ready to be selected among the substitutes.

  1. This feels like we should be approaching this match the same way a league 2 team takes on a Prem team in the fa cup. Dirty, dogged and fight for every ball against inter otherwise they will hand our a£ses to us on a plate. Problem is, we got not an ounce of fight in us. Pulisic the only one I see it means something to.

  2. Oh I dunno… Maybe Torriani between the posts could have waken up the players to actually play football instead of playing with themselves on the pitch? We’ve already lost the match if there will be no big changes to “stir the pot”.

    1. On the one hand there is that “positive” because there was a better awareness from the DEF after he came, but he made some mistakes that were happily not converted or used better by Liverpool. I wouldn’t wish him an Italian debut vs Inter, though, especially with our current form…

  3. So if Mike is fine he clearly didn’t have a serious injury.
Why did he need to go off in such a big game? Couldn’t he just play through the pain he felt. Are we a team of complete fairies?

    1. I hope you are not serious with what you’re saying. You would prefer a limping goalkeeper with history of injuries, to keep playing despite his immobility (be it temporary or not) for another 30 mins, so he can show you what kind of a big man he is…

Be glad if he is okay, which is still not reliably confirmed and hope he remains healthy. He had his fair share of injuries for a full career already.

      1. I suppose it is a reflection of my faith in the players right now.

Every time I watch Mike play, he grimaces after every dive. He is a goal keeper and a leader of the team.
Once in a while I would like to see our players grit their teeth, play through the pain (especially when it’s an important CL game), he is not seriously injured.
Just look at Theo again v Liverpool, he was challenged high up the pitch, lost the ball and stayed on the ground protesting while Liverpool counter attacked, they need to man up!!

Remember when Pazzini scored for Milan after a horror tackle that resulted in a broken leg.
We need some of that grinta. The attitude of our players is horrendous

    2. Honestly I think Maignan is mentally weak. He just wanted out of that game on Tuesday and the collision was an excuse. He wasn’t injured. There was a game last season where he lost his composure and walked off the pitch because a couple of idiots in the stands were making noises behind him. Not excusing those idiot fans but Mike needs to be mentally tougher if he is going to be a leader of this team.

      1. When he shown to be mentally weak?

Racism is another issue altogether. You can’t predict what a person will react like. Just because he didn’t tolerate racist abuse doesn’t make him weak.

  4. Like I said, there is no excuse for those fans but it was two people out of tens of thousands, you need to tune it out. Milan would’ve had to forfeit that match if Ibra didn’t talk him into coming back. Many players have had to endure worse than that. He even admitted he let it get to him in a way that he shouldn’t have. And on Tuesday, I think he was looking for a way out of that game. Sure he took a hit, but there was no injury if he’s already back training. Sometimes you have to play through pain.
