GdS: Maldini and Massara’s renewals still not done – Milan cannot accelerate for targets

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are waiting to get the extensions of Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara over the line and then the acceleration on the market should follow.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) reports this morning that there are still some details to settle before the two directors extend their deals. The agreement on the main aspects has already been found, while the balance on other issues still needs to be found, but there is optimism.

While waiting to renew they are continuing their work anyway, and yesterday they both met the Roma director Tiago Pinto, with whom they spoke above all about Alessandro Florenzi – who will sign permanently for €2m – and Nicolò Zaniolo. There is no negotiation on the Zaniolo front though, given the Giallorossi have set a huge asking price.

Sven Botman and Renato Sanches are also waiting for news from Milan, with Newcastle and PSG respectively pushing hard. Charles De Ketelaere and Hamed Junior Traoré also remain alive as options for the attack, but without the signatures the mercato remains stuck.

  1. This sholuld be addresed few months back atleast, and it is not setteld jet, then we heard they will sign this week, now next week… i dont say they wont renew contracts but we can say that something is not right. And dont say as i read in comments that other clubs didnt sign players cos is BS. It cant be made official with the leagues but it doesnt mean that players or clubs can just say i changed my mind when there are contracts signed. Fact is there is lot of confusion arround Milan, speculations are normal cos there is no official comunication from any side (Maldini, Massara, Elliot, RedBird, Gazdis, etc…).

    1. There is no official communication, they are just laughing and raise their eyebrow reading the cluelessness of sports news media. Then they will get signing out of nowhere as usual.

  2. Are we supposed to believe this story?

Fabrizio Romano said only Florenzi was being talked, no Zainolo.

It seems to me the delay in renewal do not delay their works as they can work normally as seen yesterday. This is not lame duck period like in US outgoing president.

  3. Silly question… but why not?

When I have a contract, I’m expected to work until the last day of that contract in the interests of who’s paying me. If a good deal for Milan can’t be signed because two directors don’t have an extension to their deal but are still under contract…… what?!

Yes it should be sorted, but it shouldn’t need to prevent footballing decisions being made surely, especially if the parties plan to continue together and there won’t be another sporting director anyway.
