GdS: Maldini in talks with Barcelona over teenager – the cost and formula explained

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are interested in the idea of signing Barcelona defender Jean-Clair Todibo in the January transfer window, a report claims.

That is according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, who state that the Rossoneri have decided that a centre-back is needed in the upcoming mercato, especially given Leo Duarte’s injury and Mattia Caldara’s likely return not coming until the New Year.

The paper claims that Paolo Maldini is in contract with Eric Abidal, Barca’s sporting director, over Todibo – who has a release clause of €150m.

Obviously, Milan will never be able to pay a sum of this kind and therefore a big discount will be required. The report notes that the value of the clause could be reduced by over 90%, presenting an opportunity that allows you to negotiate a deal worth around €10m plus various bonuses.

As far as the formula is concerned, an agreement could be reached on the basis of a loan with the option or obligation to buy, but a buy-back clause could also be inserted too.
