GdS: Meeting between Leao and Maldini ended abruptly due to ‘awkward answers’

A meeting took place between Rafael Leao and Paolo Maldini over his renewal but it ended rather abruptly, according to a report.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews), Milan made an offer to Leao that would have seen him extend his contract until 2027, but that offer has been left without a response because the parties no longer speak to each other.

The most recent rupture was cause by the Portuguese winger’s attitude on the subject of the release clause, which he wanted to lower from the current €150m down to €70m or a maximum of €80m, which Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara are not willing to accept.

Instead, Maldini and Massara were willing to eliminate it altogether and let the market decide the price. Maldini tried to speak to Leao through a one-on-one meeting but it did not bring the desired effects, in fact there are those who swear that the dialogue ended abruptly with Maldini who left disappointed by Leao’s ‘awkward answers’.
