GdS: ‘The Devil bites Inter’ – Milan plot shock €40m move for Chelsea’s Lukaku

By Oliver Fisher -

A rather sensational idea has emerged among the AC Milan leadership in the last few hours, and the subject is striker Romelu Lukaku.

A section in this morning’s La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) – which features the phrase ‘The Devil bites Inter’ – writes that Milan are thinking of a move for Lukaku who will return to Chelsea in eight days when his loan expires.

It seems very unlikely the Belgian will stay in London. Inter are talking to the Blues and Piero Ausilio has already been to England to ask for the renewal of the loan deal, plus Lukaku has always told Inter that he wants to stay.

However, Milan are thinking of the 30-year-old in a rather stunning double signing to mock Inter by also landing Davide Frattesi from Sassuolo.

The idea for Lukaku is to sign him on a permanent deal too which Chelsea would prefer, given the Rossoneri would not have any problem meeting the €40m asking price after Sandro Tonali’s imminent sale, which Inter cannot pay at the moment.

Lukaku’s mindset will be decisive. Inter hope that, as has been said several times in the past, ‘Big Rom’ does not go to their city rivals but Milan have big ideas of forming an attack with Lukaku plus Olivier Giroud and Marcus Thuram.

  1. I hope this is just an elaborate scheme to get Inter to spend a lot of money on Lukaku that they’d otherwise could use on players that Milan actually want.

  2. I mean, there’s so much bovine excrement to unpack there you’d need a whole other article for it…

    – Could Milan pay a fee, yes, but his current wages are out of reach

    – An attack with Thurman, Giroud and Lukaku… I don’t see any of the players signing up for that and what a money sink that would be for a single position

    – If they’ve just received that money for a 23 year old, they’re not going to spend it on a 30yo with basically no resale value

    – “thinking about” Ahh yes, GdS’ famous telepathy abilities, not used by the CIA but for transfer gossip that they could just as easily make up

I guess we have to stand by for a lot more of this sort of rubbish.

  3. Is paying 40mil for an old and an inconsistent player “moneyball” strategy? I can’t believe that Saelemaekers is the best Belgian player in Milan history. Stop signing Belgians for God’s sake they all flop in Milan and just scout Ligue 1 & Bundesliga exclusively.

  4. Crazy to think about. But then again, if someone said 1-2 months ago we’d lose both Maldini and Tonali, I’d say that man was mentally-ill kind of mad. So, please surprise me (again).

  5. Honestly, luka will improve leao’s performance, because his ability to hold ball is one of the best, but 40mil will be a bit too much, 30mil will be great

  6. If we’re not going to be spending 40M€ on SMS I doubt we’d spend that money on a player who cannot score a sitter from 3m out in the UCL final. 😀

  7. To me this is madness Acmilan should go and sign elye wahl or sign one Brazil striker from Brazilian Ligue than sign an old striker to me is just madness with 40 million euro we can sign a good striker

  8. We all assume with our common sense that this is BS, but this is Carinale’s clown world now. Let’s sell our best young players to buy 30 year old mercenaries on 7m a season…

  9. Lukaku is not worth it! Almighty Milan need a young talented striker not Lukaku.. I’m a milan fan and i ain’t support that idea cause is somehow.
