GdS: Milan ‘already smiling’ with Pavlovic’s impressive start – the details

AC Milan have made four signings so far this summer, and they already smiling about one of them – Strahinja Pavlovic. The Serbian has been impressive, even if the Rossoneri have been poor defensively.

In the same way that one player does not make up an attack, one player does not make a defence, no matter how good that player is, and this is the case with Pavlovic. Whilst Milan have been on the end of two poor performances, there has been a player to take notice of according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Although the biggest issues lie with the defence, the Serbian defender has been a shining, ‘smiling’ light providing something to hold onto when the ‘ground is crumbling’ around the Diavolo’s feet. As a collective, the defence is poor, but Pavlovic is keeping them respectable.

After Malick Thiaw’s performance against Torino, change was needed at the back, and that arrived in the form of the Serbian’s first start. Of course, there was a short period of embedding himself into the team against Parma, but after the defender was fearless and ‘took possession of his new team’.

With a yellow card in the 34th minute, Gazzetta suggests there were two ways of continuing – cautiously or courageously. Pavlovic chose the latter and impressed by doing so. He held his head high, his choices were great, he played with bravery and his actions were fantastic – things that cannot be said for his teammates.

With seven tackles won, 16 duels won, and three positive passes – the most of anyone on the team – Milan can look to Pavlovic in difficulty, and if the match against Parma is anything to go by, they will find a rock.

    1. Did you watch the same game as the rest of us, or are you just yapping? Don’t be a wise guy.

Fast enough to track back and make a critical tackle to prevent two more goals…

  1. He’s great but also reckless. Raw talent is there now they sculpture a cb out of that. He can’t play on the verge of a red every game, it’s unhealthy.

    1. The recklessness is due to his teammates leaving him for dead. If they were positioned better he wouldn’t have to make those last ditch tackles. He’s going to be great at the back. Now if only the rest could at least learn their positions

I wouldn’t even do a high press on teams until the defence learns how to play together and how to position themselves

  2. I remember the beginnings of tomori, kalulu, thiaw when they just arived, it was just the same, high pressing, big heart, sliding into opponents and all that, they were heroes here, now they are enemies of the state. I wish you all the best and don’t listen to much about complimment because the same people will booo you for sure in a certain time

  3. He’s really good, I agree, lots of potential here… But now his fellow teammates must begin to play accordingly too…

  4. lol already smiling? I think ppl are overlooking his very obvious flaws. He’s very reckless, his positional awareness is poor, he’s caught out constantly and the few recovery tackles were made bc we are playing Parma who refused to shoot the ball. Half of the wide open breakaways were caused by him and tomoris poor positioning. Gabbia needs to play with either Tomori or pav to have balance. You have to have someone that has defensive iq instead of just brute force 24/7.

    1. Exactly! I can’t see the positiveness either. He reminds me of Chyhrynskyi. Dude chases his opponent 15meters forward leaving Tomori in nomansland. Looking very clumsy in some occasions as well.

All because we so badly needed a left footed centre back… Our backline was fine, it was all what was left from our Scudetto winning line-up. I agree we needed extra competition at RB but buying Pavlo (or should I say beast) and offloading Kalulu is just money in the dreys… Problem has always been midfield.

  5. Good defending skills?

Dude was just doing his job when the others didnt. That doesnt make him special. Nothing special has been done by him yet. NOT. A. SINGLE. SPECIAL. THING.

Others were dip$hits doesnt mean Pavlovic was special.

  6. Super impressed by Strahinja. Absolute beast & a man of the match vs Parma. The only player on the field who really tried. A one man army.
