GdS: Milan and Newcastle place same bid for Botman – an auction could take place

AC Milan and Newcastle United could be set to compete in an auction to land Sven Botman from Lille, according to a report.

Milan have been negotiating with Lille over a deal for Botman since the January transfer window and despite multiple reports suggesting the operation would reach a positive conclusion, the Rossoneri’s mercato seems to be blocked by the fact that a change in ownership has just taken place, plus Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara being on expiring contracts.

According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews), the duel between Milan and Newcastle continues for Botman, a defender that Lille want at least €30m from if they are to sell.

The bids presented by the two clubs so far are the same despite suggestions Newcastle have offered more, so an auction could take place. If so, the Premier League side would be favorites over the Rossoneri as they have a much larger budget given their cash-rich Saudi ownership.
