GdS: Milan directors place blame on players after summit with Conceicao

A summit took place between the AC Milan directors and Sergio Conceicao after yesterday’s defeat to Torino, according to a report. The conclusion was that individual mistakes are making life difficult for the Rossoneri.

It has been a season filled with ups and downs, making it incredibly frustrating for the fans to follow the team. As highlighted by today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo below), yesterday was yet another blow after the Champions League exit mid-week.

Today, Juventus could increase the gap to eight points and even with a win against Bologna on Thursday, the situation will be very difficult for Conceicao. Indeed, after the positive start with the Supercoppa Italiana win, he’s now in a troubled spot.

The former Porto is only slightly better than his predecessor, Paulo Fonseca, when looking at the average points per game (1.75 vs 1.59). With these results, his future at the club will inevitably be at risk and if Milan were to miss out on the UCL, he would surely be fired.

At the end of the game last night, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Giorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada had a summit with Conceicao to analyse the situation. They reiterated their faith in the manager and placed blame on the players, more specifically their costly mistakes.

From March onwards, the manager will finally have time to work properly with the players – i.e. no mid-week games – and new assessments will have to be made after that period.

  1. The pot calling the kettle black! who now blames the directors and holds them responsible? When fonsy was trying something new, no yelling, no tantrums: he was called a sissy and fired unceremoniously. Good riddance to bad rubbish eh? Well the table has turned full circle. The “genius” directors are now pointing fingers at others, now is not sergio, its not fonsy: its the lazy players! Didn’t Fonsy say so months ago? the management threw him under the bus.

Now we have a ranting coach, constantly complaining about not having enough time to transmit his playing styles (which we have noticed includes grabbing opponents by the shirt, shoving them in the back, sky diving, rolling on the floor while a counter attack is in progress, constantly waving hand at the referee and running aimlessly without a clear structure on the pitch) and lack of professional behaviour by the players.

He sits on the cooler, sulks, shouts and screams at the deaf players who keep on playing the same shitty football as before.

All hell broke loose when Fonsy benched the lazy players before, now everyone is silent, cos Fonsy was correct! Some players need to leave, but the directors who pampered them dont want to because, they would have to admit they were wrong.

Something they are not prepared to do!

    1. Fonseca was right. We need new menagement, new owner, new leaders on the pitch and new menager. SERGIO OUT !! NOW !! Bring someone else to finish this season for god sake !

  2. Yes but how have we suddenly stopped scoring as much as before? Only vs Roma did we score 3 goals in a match. In the last 8 games we have only been able to score 10 goals while letting in 8 goals. Our attack has become obsolete our mid overtired and our defence error prone with multiple mistakes costing us goals. I honestly dont see us making top 6. Spain will get 5 ucl spots. We may need to try and win Copa to secure Europa because honestly this team wont budge up more than 7th

  3. “They reiterated their faith in the manager and placed blame on the players, more specifically their costly mistakes.”
They didn’t do anything about Théo or Leão after the cooling break incident.
They didn’t do anything about Théo, Tomori and Abraham after the 2 penalties incident and red card against la Viola.
They didn’t reprimand Musah after the game against Dinamo Zagreb.
They didn’t do anything to Théo after the game against Feyenoord.
But now they’re blaming the players ? Ok what are they gonna do, use angry tones ? Do you think the players care ?
The players understood that there is no leadership and no management whatsoever so they’re actually free do to whatever they want.
Some people need to understand this: the club might be affected badly if we miss the UCL next season but the players are the least affected. They’ll always receive their paycheck and can always leave during the summer. It’s not like the clubs which might be targeting them are going to change their mind if they don’t qualify to the UCL.
Until everyone is held accountable, until everyone is rallied behind the same cause, they can “blame” as much as they want, it won’t matter.

  4. Blame the players ? And what ? Zlat will shout on the training ground to the bad players ?? Togerher with SC 😂😂 Pathetic !! They don’t give a single f**k 👍This season is finished – no Champions League next season(maybe next few years)-thanks to the stupid and underexperienced menagement.Zlat you better do your you tube channel and meet again ishowspeed-that is your level👍Stay away from menaging professional club because you just don’t deliver🤷🏻‍♂️

  5. Football is collective sport.

Why Pioli Maldini Massara had success and these clowns don’t?

Back than Milan had big problem in attack. They bought players like Pitaek, Silva, Higuain, Kalinic…etc. But those players weren’t able to man up, to increase value of play during the time.

Everything change after arrival of Ibrahimovic. He had help for season or two with Rebic.
Next part is new arrivals of potential good players. Like Leao Hernandez Bennacer Tonali.

They were not strong names, but over time they succeed to bring result and becomed famous players.
Why that happened? Because Milan switched way of play to use best characteristics of these players.
Milan was one collective unit with young players some experienced one, coaches and managers. Players wanted to upgrade more play and that bring result.

After Red Bird arrival we have managers sacked, 2 coaches sacked, sale of Tonali, and departure of many other players.

They did bring stronger players on the paper – but you don’t have strong team, willing to success willing to bring result. You don’t have quality managers or even good coach.

And that is forcing Red Bird to put blame on players, which they pay more than Pioli boys.

But this is not NBA and RedBird will learn eventually what eu football is..

    1. You said my mind. We are not playing as a team and that is badly affecting us. Fayernord has shown us what a team play looks like.

  6. end of a cycle with Pioli ….
ok, i understand that. Fonseca and Sergio …. same shitty fotball …. hmmm
same “stars” who don’t make click with the coach …
in my opinion , players are trying to get rid of sergio as they did the same with fonsy. they act like they are in charge and zlatan is watching without doing anything. players know they can’t be put to bench, the club will lose $.
changing the coach every 4,5 months is NOT the solution …. if they bring another coach and keep the “stars” will keep repeating this saga …
do as Napoli … forget the cl this year and clean the mess. bring primavera players ( Torriani, Liberali, Vos, Zeroli, Camarda) and bentch the “stars” leao, theo, mike, tomori, fofana . and in the summer sell them & bring players the coach wants!
sorry for my bad english !

  8. Let’s be honest, this 2 games was definitely not a Conceicao problem, but players. I still think Conceicao is good coach but main problem this season is players mentality, they are weak. And now I really think this is the end between AC Milan and Theo and Leao, for sure both will be sell . They need new environment and we need now motivated players with ambitions.
What you think about Conceicao? Is he good for us from start of the next season? Or we need to look for another solution?

    1. Exactly what I was saying both players are in their comfort zone and need to leave, keep Conceicao I say we can’t keep going through coaches and he is a proven winner with Porto, but more importantly I think Milan definitely need a change of management. I’d keep Ibra cause of his appeal and aura (it’s not legendary like Maldini’s but still attracts players to us), I’d decrease his powers and responsibilities to let him learn from proper sporting director how to build a good sporting project and execute it, the mistakes made by management alone have already cost us the season, if conte or Conceicao were hired beginning of the season we would not be this bad off now

      1. Yes for sure I think same .. Fonseca has maybe good tactics, but he doesn’t has experience in this level of football… Now it will be the best decision to keep Conceicao for next season , sell players who don’t want to stay here and buy new one… even if we don’t win scudetto next year, still he will have good chance to finish in top 4 and win coppa Italia …
And Yes I think same, Zlatan is Zlatan and he love Milan, everyone know him and this is the reason why we need him.. but definitely we need experienced managers

  9. Conceicao has better average points per game in serie A, Fonseca did much better in UCL. But both are not good enough.

We need a manager with lots of experience in serie A.

  10. There has been a comedy of errors starting from management. Poor planning and wrong selection of coaches starting with Lopetegui and Fonseca when coaches like Conte was available but they claimed they didn’t want a manager but instead wanted a yes man who they could tell him what to do.

Then there is Conceição who in my opinion is making some horrendous mistakes with substitutions.

Taking off attacking players like Leao to sub in a midfielder when we are down a goal? He has done this several times and it’s beyond bizarre to say the least.

And lastly the players are making mistakes as well. So in my opinion there needs to be a complete overhaul of management, coach and players.

Ibra, Furlani and Moncada needs to go. We need a quality experienced sporting director who has Serie A experience.

Then Conceição has to go also. We need an Italian coach and with players we have Sarri seems to be the best option for a 433.

Then players like Mike Maignan, Theo and Leao all need to go including Abraham, Felix, Emerson, Chukwueze, Tomori, Okafor and RLC.

  11. The players lack commitment and desire, the management should support the manager to bench any player that is not serious including Leo

  12. piolli wasnt the best but he did know how to work with the fragile egos of the team. that’s why theo and leao played their best under him. disciplinarian conceicao’s approach doesnt work with these “superstars”

  13. Bring Paolo Maldini Back, he can Boost our players morale. Everyone in the club respect him, Our players, staff, coach, except cardinale. But the truth is i believe half of our problem gonna disappear when Paolo back to the club

  14. I think its a problem of over confidence , rather than lack of motivation… I feel like the players think that they have done enough to be considered a good player! They all are playing for themselves ( most of them) … And taking things lighty and easy going!
