GdS: Milan ‘disjointed soloists’ as Pioli has lost control of the team

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan lost the game against Udinese yesterday evening and Stefano Pioli’s position has been heavily questioned by the fans, as well as Italian media. Today’s reactions are not too kind to the manager, it must be said.

As highlighted by today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo below), Milan have lost their way. The 4-2-4 experiment only played into the hands of Udinese, making things difficult for Rafael Leao, and with two strikers that didn’t even look like one.

What the spectators saw yesterday, as the newspaper continues, was a group of ‘disjointed soloists’, adding to the recent poor run of form. It’s clear, however, that this defeat hurts much more. Inter are now six points ahead and it was Udinese’s first win since May (!).

Of course, the penalty can be discussed, the injuries as well and let’s not forget about Olivier Giroud’s header at the end. But the truth remains that we have seen the worst Milan of the season. The Milan that Pioli built is no longer there, but that cycle came to an end last season, not now.

The summer changes, however, have resulted in a Rossoneri side that lacks continuity and personality. And now something needs to change quickly, otherwise, sensational decisions could be made by Milan.

  1. “The Milan that Pioli built is no longer there, but that cycle ended last season, not now.” – That right there is what some of us have been saying since January. He should have been sacked then and there.

  2. It has to be said that the summer signings have been largely pulling their weight, parts of the old guard, especially Theo and Leao, have been severely lacking.

    1. Who? Besides Pulisic, who exactly? The only impactful signing. Others are there, some are playing but they aren’t decisive in any way…

  3. I don’t know why pioli don’t care about 4231 at least he have to continue building his 4231 that bring us title and even our best player are struggling because of his tactics now

  4. I am afraid that I got things wrong.i thought we we definitely win this game .
Two strikers, did not work as both jovic and Giroud got in each others way, instead of creating space in restricted it .Yes Giroud did manage one excellent header on target ,but other than that did little, but that said no service to him what so whatsoever.
Rafeo leao was our best outlet for creating anything , and I thought he did reasonably well .Team overall appalling ..so disjointed and lacking ideas .

    1. Admiration for the confidence pre match but total respect for your honesty. 👍
The season and second star are salvageable but Pioli must go.

  5. Again, there was no need for such drastic change to the system and formation. Too many changes were made in the summer, he was given too much power thinking he’s able to build his team from the scratch. He should stick to his winning 4231 and build on it.

  6. No comment, im just sitting tight waiting so bad for the news that milan sack pioli…. Just hoping my christmast gift come earlier

  7. I don’t know what’s the confusion about. We had the greatest summer transfer in a decade and we’re in perfect harmony 🤗
