Thanks to yet another comeback win, this timer against Como, AC Milan are now just five points behind top four. As highlighted by Gazzetta dello Sport, they have a duty to believe in it.
Goals from Christian Pulisic and Tijjani Reijnders sealed an impressive turnaround for Milan, who now have won two consecutive games for the first time in a month. As reported by today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo below), they still have to believe in a top-four finish.
Indeed, while Sergio Conceicao’s Milan can be criticised on many levels, there is no denying that they have character. The messy, hybrid and undefined football aside, they certainly know how to turn a game around and get back from tough positions.
Yesterday was not only their second consecutive win, but also their second consecutive comeback as they turned 0-2 to 3-2 against Lecce and 0-1 to 2-1 against Como. In the top five European leagues, since Conceicao’s arrival, only Bologna (15 points) have recovered more points from deficits than Milan (12).
Como, meanwhile, have wasted 22 points from winning positions, which only Venezia (24), Valencia and Southampton (23) have done worse than. Having said all of this, it’s still very difficult to determine whether Conceicao can consider himself in the top-four race still.
While waiting for the results of today’s games (Bologna-Lazio, Fiorentina-Juventus), Milan are in 7th place and five points behind top four. They have to believe in it with nine games left of the season, otherwise they could just stop playing altogether.
Juve is also bad so it isn’t unrealistic. Lazio and Bologna ok, I think they will both fail. But for me the problem is the team with the best form in Serie A. Roma. No loss in last 10 games, 2 draws, 8 wins. They are by far in the best form and have an actually good team.
I see that is not mentioned anywhere, like Roma is not ahead of Milan if they win today. And they are definitely a bigger “problem” than Lazio or Bologna.
If Milan fix the double pivot issue and the defensive pairing then we have a chance. Not sure why Conceição refuses to play Bondo and Fofana together in the double pivot.
Maybe Fofana and RLC combo could work. I don’t know at this point but that needs to be fixed asap.
Bondo was injured and Fofana played too many minutes since coming to Milan.
I agree on the midfield. But Fofana hasn’t offered many guarantees playing in the middle thus far. He started well but his levels have dropped off. Bondo is still a question mark and Musah needs to be loaned out for a year or two.
It would be funny if the key to midfield for the rest of the season becomes RLC.
