AC Milan plan to reward Matteo Gabbia for his excellent performances in 2024 by giving him a renewal, and the handshakes are very close to arriving as per a report.

As reported by this morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below), Theo Hernandez’s renewal is just one of the negotiations that the Milan management will work on over the next few months.

Talks could soon be set up to try and reach agreements with three other members of the rearguards, namely Mike Maignan, Davide Calabria and Matteo Gabbia. It is expected that the latter will be the first to get across the line.

Having returned from his loan at Villarreal visibly improved in every aspect, the Italian defender has been offering top-level performances for a year now, which have even earned him a call-up for Luciano Spalletti’s national team.

This will undoubtedly have consequences on a contractual level as well because at the moment Gabbia earns €1m net per season, a salary that will be at least doubled as a sign of recognition for the growth of the academy product.

Milan intend to protect the centre-back, conscious of the fact that he may end up being tempted by other clubs who will offer him higher wages otherwise.
