GdS: ‘Milan and Italy don’t talk’ – a Rossoneri Azzurri awaits after vacuum

The European Championship lacked a single Italian AC Milan representative, and at present, this trend will probably continue. In the future, though, the Italian National Team could have a very Milanese feel.

When Luciano Spalletti named his Italian squad for the European Championship, some were shocked by the lack of any Milan representation. However, it is a struggle to argue for anyone’s place within the squad.

As Gazzetta dello Sport writes, though, this may not be the case for much longer.

For the first time since 1938, Italy were without any Rossoneri. This trend may continue for now, but looking ahead, several players should represent the Azzurri.

Already, the Diavolo can boast several members of the Azzurrini. Whilst there are no representations in the Under-21 side, the same cannot be said about the Under-20s. Lorenzo Torriani, Davide Bartesaghi, and Kevin Zeroli have all embedded themselves within the squad.

A step below, Adam Bakoune, Vittorio Magni, Mattia Liberali, Emanuele Sala, and Diego Sia represent the Under-19 side, and there are another six representatives in the Under-18s and Under-17s setups as well.

Then, we have the star boy. Currently, he is playing for the Under-19s, but he has been drifting between the squads this summer to compete in the international tournaments. It is important to remember here that the starlet is only 16, he is playing two age groups up, and he is, undoubtedly, seen as Italy’s next big thing.

For a Nation who have experienced a striker drought in the past few years, there finally seems to be a shining light, and there is a desire to keep the pressure off of him. His time will come, it is predestined. Looking at the bigger picture, Milan’s time will come once again, with the talent among their ranks, their significance to the Azzurri will quickly show again.

  1. Yeah people were saying Ricci mediocre… for some reason Torino have 7 points and he got his start over entire midfield that went to euros… just saying…

  2. Ricci is a very good midfielder; he can play both DM & CM vice versa.
Against Milan this season, he played better than our midfielders. I wish Milan can go for him during winter transfer before he end up at Inter or Juventus.

    1. he’s in his final year next summer… after all the players they sold, I think Ricci is more of a summer move.

Him and J.David, if the latter comes for free, would instantly elevate the entire team. Upgrade RLC and Emerson (maybe bounces back in 2nd half of the season, idk yet) and then we are actually serious for the titles.

  3. if we look at the current Italy squad, the trend is: there is no milan first team player, but there is milan former and academy graduates. the situation won’t change as long as milan policy is signing foreign player over italian player with the same quality.
also milan might have a lot of youngster good enough for the future. but we don’t know where they’ll play in the future. are we sure this kids won’t be sold for capital gain?

    1. You put it more succinctly than me.

Apart from the scum in goal, Italy started with Tonali, and had a Bellanova and Bresciani on the bench.

  4. Well how could Calabria possibly compete with the quality of Di Lorenzo….

But of course so many on here completely support the exclusion of the club captain, and regularly side with rival team players over our own.

As for the next victims, what exactly has changed?

Unless they change the rules of football to allow more than 11 players how exactly will any of our youth team players get enough games given our supermassive squads at both senior level and it seems even Futuro?

If we keep going with a spray gun approach to player recruitment, focusing on vast quantities, then we’ll never develop quality.

This summer was the same as so many.

We can’t just sign one striker, we have to sign two.

We can’t just stick to the players we have, we have to bring in new players in every position.

Once again the club went out to find a replacement for Calabria. They’ve done this nearly every season since he broke into the team going back 7 seasons. Conti, Florenzi (who cost Italy a World Cup with his mistake against Bulgaria), Kalulu, and now Royal, and Calabria has had to fight them all and WIN.

Cutrone outscored Silva, Kalinic, Higuain but they just kept piling more strikers on until they broke him.

Nothing’s changed. And if anything the Futuro’s just another vehicle for laundering money.

      1. Strange response…what upset you?

I was referring to the Bulgaria game which was the start of Italy’s collapse after the Euros win.

    1. “Nothing’s changed. And if anything the Futuro’s just another vehicle for laundering money.“

….says the goofball who calls me a “conspiracy theorist.”

  5. Milan and Italian don’t talk because fronseca. This guys just not a good coach and part of the reason for milan decline. We need to get rid of him asap

  6. Tonali, Donnarumma, Brescianini, Bellanova, Locatelli, De Sciglio, Acerbi… no shortage of Milanisti, most of them sold instead of nurtured… Zeroli and co will surely join the above either before they get their shot or once they get the first solid offers of big money.

    1. Our youngsters will not see a single minute of competitive football…They will get sold for big money! That’s just how this management operates!

  7. The issue isn’t the management, despite the claims by clueless fans, as management as tying up their young stars to contracts and loading the Primavera and Futuro with Italians. The issue is Moncada. We heard all summer Fonseca’s brief was to integrate players from the Primavera. He did that in friendlies, but when the competitive games came around, he lost his nerve.

  8. we say “Wow we’ve so many potential talents, future is bright” &
they say “Wow we’ve so many potential pure capital-gain, future is bright”
how much we’ve got from the sell of Simic, Malda & other youngster?
this board isn’t just cheap in buying but also cheap in selling talent w/ stupid price
