GdS: Milan and Juventus falling behind rivals quickly – the stats are damning

AC Milan and Juventus have struggled to impose themselves at the start of this season and as things stand, Champions League is at risk for both clubs. Indeed, the stats are pretty damning as highlighted by a report.

Today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo below) has analysed the numbers of Milan and Juventus thus far, using the points collected and comparing that with the 2023-24 season. As things stand, none of them would make the Champions League.

Juventus are in sixth place and Milan are in eighth place, though with a game in hand, but even a win against Bologna wouldn’t get the Rossoneri in the top four. Everything could change this month with positive results, but it’s clear that both teams will have to change from cruising speed to do so.

The average stats

Juventus currently have an average of 1.8 points per game. Using this to calculate a final points tally after 38 games, they would finish on 68 points. This is what Bologna managed in 2023-24 (also under Thiago Motta) and it got them UCL thanks to the fifth spot, which isn’t certain this time out.

The season before that, Milan secured the final fourth spot with 70 points as Juventus were deducted ten points. Without this sanction, the fourth spot would have been at 72 points, so that tells us roughly what is needed this season too.

As for Milan, they have played 9 games and have claimed an average of 1.55 points per game. Spread over 38 games, that would result in a mere 59 points and this would perhaps secure a Conference League spot. In short, Milan and Juve are falling behind quickly, with change desperately needed.

  1. I don’t understand why everyone is mad at results… They hired Nonseca… and and players we have are now average, except some hot and cold performance by Theo and Puli who is in wrong team.

We are in a spot where we should be.
In summer, they wanted to hire West Ham coach whose job is on line and Nonseca…
This tells a lot about ambitions of current board.

Lower your expectations, don’t buy a ticket, eventually, Cardinale will be forced to sell the club for sure.

  2. Juventus was doing ok until their CBs got injured. They were forced to play full backs as CBs so their defence sucked for a couple of games but that will change. Also they have a very new team which is still learning to play together. In general their problems are not as close as bad as ours. Were no matter what we do things just wont work. Since we have a quite badly build team.
